First experience of pilgrimage
It's been a while since I've travelled to Lourdes. It was first experience of a pilgrimage and we came as a diocese pilgrimage in June 2008, the 150th anniversary of the apparition. Our parish chose Tara Hotel. The hotel was very close to the Sanctuary but the hotel was very run down looking. The lifts took an age to come to our floor, especially on the morning we were due to check-out and as we were on the 5th Floor, I didn't want to be running up and down the stairs. The pillow (one pillow) was very flat, so the first night I did not sleep, but I requested a second pillow the second night and the sleep was better. No view from our hotel window, but I didn't come to Lourdes for the view, but prayer and sacrifice.
I forgot the adapter for my kettle and the concierge gave us a spare one, which was lovely. There is a shop on the ground floor, so you could buy your souvenirs and candles for the night procession. There was not much of a choice for breakfast, lunch or dinner, but I did not starve. Many people complained about the food, but I thought it was edible. The waitress did not have any English as so when people asked questions, she was not able to answer them. I tried to help with my broken French.
I am coming back to Lourdes again in August 2012, PG, but not to Tara Hotel

staff very friendly x helpful
had seen some bad reviews in this site so dreaded arrival, was pleasantly surprised!!! rooms were spotless, eg. bed linen bathroom etc. food was good, and staff brilliant, only complaint was we had no itinery but would blame tour operator for this.as it was our first trip to Lourdes it would have been nice to know times etc. of what was happening eg. masses, procession of light, when baths were open etc. Overall a very enjoyable experience and would go back again. thank you to all at the Tara hotel.

Myself, my sister and my mother stayed here for 3 nights. Has to be the worse hotel either of us has ever stayed in.
Rooms were small and dingy, no friendly atmosphere.
The worst was the food. Could only be described as appalling. 'Salad' was wilted and warm. Water jug was dirty and undrinkable. During the course of one of the dinners a pubic hair was found on the food. That was the last time i set foot in the restaurant.

We stayed in The Tara earlier this month and I was surprised to see the poor rating the previous people made.
The rooms were modern and spotlesley clean, the staff were most helpful and spoke superb English.
The food was delicious and there was more than we could eat...we have a teenage son who could eat all day!
Value for money was quite simply remarkable...where else can you stay and have bed, breakfast and dinner for less than£50 per day.
We will be going back to Lourdes next year and we will be staying in The Tara Hotel again
