Great Location, Great Value ......
This is essentially targeted at Chinese visitors but there's no getting away from the fact that it is a quality business with a strong customer focus. Reception staff utterly efficient. Rooms comfortable and well equipped. The buffet breakfast, offering typical Chinese fare, was surprisingly decent and edible if somewhat haphazard. Location in former French Concession superb ... exit hotel turn right walk for ten minutes and reach The Bund, turn left reach People's Square. Metro nearby too. As a China resident thus will be my base for all future trips to Shanghai.

A very old Hotel with no servi....
The only good thing about this place is the location. its a short 4 minute walk to NANJING Lu Market. That's it.
Besides, the hotel apparently is a very very old property with absolute lack of will on part of management to change anything. The rooms are furnished with old run down shabby furniture. Air conditioner was not working at all during night and reception staff answered that this is as per council regulations which i found hard to believe. Breakfast is not worth commenting and not worth eating too. No room service is available and no English speaking staff is there except at front desk.
Also, i was witness to two fierce customer arguments with the hotels front office staff on some issues.
Avoid..Lotsf good hotels around as i discovered later.

Don't go there
Possibly gets the award for the dirtiest most run down hotel in shanghai
Lobby lights off
FULL OF WORKING GIRLS
Can't find a restaurant
No one speaks English or maybe because they were all asleep that's why they didn't answer
Moping the floor with the same mop the housekeeping use to clean the toilets

Clean and well priced
The hotel was in good condition from what I saw. The rooms were clean and had decent furniture. The front desk staff spoke good English which was nice. Though I did see a man who spoke neither Mandarin or English and they had a hard time serving him. The internet worked well. This is also in a great location. It was relatively quiet and had many restaurants and shops close by. It was about a 15 minute walk to the Yuyuan gardens and about 3 blocks of Nanjing Street.

Good clean hotel, great centra....
I am very cost conscious and have been looking for a better choice for some years and over and over return to the Wugong. Only two long blocks to East Nanjing metro stop and a great local people massage parlor on the same side street you will take to the Metro, 60RMB for a one hour foot massage. Lots of good local restaurants on the same street. Rooms are large and clean, Price is probably the best value in Shanghai. Agoda seems to have even better deals from time to time. I have been staying at the Wugong for ten years. Breakfast is so so, great coffee shop called Coffee IQ just two blocks away. I have lived in France off and on for 30 years and the croissants are as good as you will get in Paris, really.
