Room Ambiance is good, overall....
Stayed for a week, came on business trip. Room ambiance is good. One problem you face is to communicate with hotel staff, very few knows english. You have to use your gesture to make them understand what you actually need. Or you have to translate on mobile and show them. Breakfast variety is good, but not recommended for pure veg people.
Near to metro station, just walking distance so easy to commute.

I arrived to the hotel to discover that they didn't have my booking... checkin took a while and the level of english was very poor.
The entrance to the hotel is fairly impressive, however that is where it ends... my room was a standard room with a double bed... it looked that the room had seen better days.. furniture a little battered and the carpet with a number of stains was quite off-putting.
Breakfast was very poor, hardly any western style food, i get the impression that westerners do not use this hotel on a regular basis..
No wifi, i was given a modem but it didn't work....
I decided to check-out after the first night and move to another hotel.
The only thing I can say in favor is the price.

Old but not bad Hotel in Shang....
The hotel is a little bit old, the room and the bed all normal. Good thing is with international power adaptors, convenient for foreigner's use. The staff there seemed not so happy that day. The room card seemed limited, only one could be provided, and must be returned, or you need pay fine. 10-15 min to the subway station, convenient for us to go out.

Wonderful stay! Awesome room!
My boyfriend and I were so pleasantly surprised with how great our stay was at New Beacon. The reviews we read were pretty neutral, so we were expecting an average stay, but that changed as soon as we entered our room... Which can only be described as a 1970s bamboo love den. Easily the grooviest room in Shanghai for that price. Spacious bedroom, desktop computer, nice shower, living area with a lime green couch, a glass wall displaying fake bamboo and tiny stuffed pandas, and two TVs in case you and your lover have different taste in Chinese soaps. Amazing. No smoking in the room, but there was an ash tray on top of a glass coffee table filled with synthetic rose petals. Just for the vibes, I guess.
More good stuff:
-free water and coffee in the room
-short, cheap cab ride to line 11 station that took us straight to Shanghai Disneyland
-staff was super nice! Our train from BJ got us to Shanghai around 00:30 but there was a gentleman at the front desk who checked us in. His English was minimal, and so is our Chinese, but we got by just fine (he even understood that we booked two separate reservations for Friday and Saturday nights, and kept us in the same room for both nights)
-the woman who checked us out spoke great English, helped us order a cab to the city, and called us when the staff found our headphones we left behind in the room.
-across the street is a bar/restaurant (I think it was called Georgio's) where we had late night snacks, great beer, and they're open early for coffee and juices.
I would definitely stay here again. Do yourself a favor and request the bamboo room.
