Facilities offered in Shanghai East Asia Sport Hotel :
I am staying at the East Asia Sports Hotel in Shanghai at the moment, and I really enjoy the hotel. The rooms are large, clean, quiet, and important for an Australian, come with a fridge. There is good shopping all around, and the metro (not sure which line) is only a 10 minute walk away.
Although there is wired broadband in the room, it does not seem to work - not really a problem, as I always get a local sim card and carry my usb modem and my mobile wifi with me.
There is a large restaurant on the ground floor serving Chinese cuisine, and there is a shop which sells take away Chinese meals (very busy and not expensive). Across from the hotel are a lot of restaurants and a supermarket with a great selection of everything.

good location terrible hotel
I was put in this hotel by a Chinese company I was working for and you get what you don't pay for...On the plus side: great views. Good hot water, right near the Metro and the stadium and sports complex. good AC and the bed was hard ( all beds in China are hard) but comfortable.
Neg: Smells like cigarettes and there are ashtrays and matches everywhere you look, wifi isn't.. instead it is a cable hook up, there is no bottled water, no restaurant, the carpets look like they have been there since the 70's. The towels were almost see thru, and on top of it we couldn't find anyone who spoke enough of any other language to direct us. Lrdd than 3 minutes walk away were two other hotels that were so much nicer it was tempting to pay out of pocket just to have a nice room for the weekend.

Get what you pay for?
You gotta love a non-smoking hotel that provides matches and ashtrays in the room. Good deal if you need to be in the neighborhood, but otherwise avoid. Also, charging 15 RMB for very poor internet. If it's important to you, very little English spoken at the hotel.
