Do not stay here they tried to....
Do stay here for these reasons:
-they upgraded our executive room to a suite which turned out to be a smaller, more cramped room with a terrible view
-our free drink coupon was for apple or orange juice downstairs or a drink upstairs from 9-10 pm only... probably apple or orange juice only haha no alcohol
-cannot exchange money at front desk
-note that pool is out of service today, not dated, so probably forever haha
Our room we booked turned out to be amazing with space, a double view tv, big bed and nice couches, great huge windows and a view of the bund. Too bad we had to argue with the manager to get into our original room. No free drinks after our experience as promised. Worst customer service experience in a hotel. So sneaky.

Not the best
We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. It is a large hotel and we found breakfast had a good selection of food, from western to Chinese items. It was a little confusing as the food was spread out in different areas so we seemed to be looking for different items.
Our room was quite large and contained everything we needed but I found the bed extremely hard and also the view from the window was a concrete wall. It stated that there is free wifi but we couldn't get it in our room.
The exterior of the hotel was not too good as some of the gold banners around one pillar was missing, not an inspiring outlook for first impressions.
The hotel is ok but feel there would be better hotels than this, would not stay there again.

good location for the price
good size room with clean ,well appointed bathroom. Breakfast had plenty of choice and buffet style. there is a shopping mall across the road with cafes and places to eat .there are also lots of small local shops to get supplies and snacks. The hotel is about a 20 minute walk from the North end of the Bund but the walk in along the river is lovely -beautiful garden ,toilets along the way and lovely views. would stay there again.

Wonder's of China
I was on a 16 day holiday with Mercury Holidays and stayed at the Ocean Hotel in Shanghai for two nights, it is a modern hotel, comfortable beds, clean towels, tea and coffee facilities in the room, large TV, hairdryer, complimentary toiletries in the bathroom, housekeeping very good.
The breakfast was buffet style with plenty of choices, we had water provided in the room, a supermarket was near by, staff very helpful and friendly, enjoyed my stay.

A horrible hotel.
Although the room was really large and comfortable with a huge window and a great bathroom, out experience was totally dominated by the rude, unhelpful staff and the complete lack of service. The receptionist, concierge, bar and restaurant staff and management appeared to go out of their way to radiate indifference, hostility and contempt for us as guests. The only exceptions to universal staff unpleasantness were a smiling doorman and a courteous room maid.
Going down to breakfast at 9 we found most of the tables were filthy and uncleared.
Room service was apparently unavailable after 9pm.
In the bar we were charged nearly £6 for a glass of orange juice , including a “service charge” for the waiter to walk 15 feet from the bar to the table and we were not allowed to take the glass of juice to our room.
The lifts are numerous and fast but a quick stop on the fifth floor, which appears to be a permanent party floor, made us fervently grateful that our room was much higher as the noise was intense.
Not a pleasant experience. Avoid.
