Cold and Smoke-filled

This is by far the worst Vienna International Hotel I’ve stayed in. Shanghai was experiencing very cold weather and the room was either ice-cold or overheated. The thermostat has only one temperature (disregard the dial, it means nothing) and that’s hot. Unfortunately, not hot enough to warm up the room unless it runs for hours. Thankfully, the housekeeper left her key card in the slot after the second day so the room could warm up. The carpet in the rooms is filthy—stained and grubby over all. Definitely a ‘keep your socks on’ kind of place. The bathroom is ice cold also...the heat doesn’t seem to get in there. Water pressure and water temperature in the shower was good. There do not appear to be any non-smoking areas of this hotel except for the lobby (also ice-cold; even the desk staff had their winter coats on). Rooms smelled strongly of stale smoke, people were smoking in rooms with the doors open and in the halls...and in one instance, in the elevator. The bed was fairly comfortable (very firm mattress, as is typical) and bed linens were clean and pressed. Breakfast was on the lobby level and you may as well have been eating outdoors as a constant cold breeze flowed through. Selections were just OK. When the yams are the best thing for breakfast, you know it’s not great! Coffee is premade with sugar and milk already added. They did fry fresh eggs; get ‘em while they are hot. WiFi was available but slow during peak hours. I recommend using a VPN. I would avoid this hotel.

Carry your own bags

My company put me up in this hotel earlier this month. Location is excellent, rooms are reasonably spacious but the positives stop there. Front office staff are a bunch of bungling inexperienced comedians! There is no bell boy service so if you are an overseas visitor, GOD help you because none of the staff can speak more than two words in English. Bedspread torn, table lamp not working, plug point has a loose contact ... these are normal state of affairs in this hotel and I experienced this in both the rooms that I stayed. If you want your bags brought down from the room do not expect any help. Breakfast is ordinary but has some variety. If you are vegetarian, be happy with the fried eggs, fried bread and fruits. I honestly dont know what a wine bar is doing in this hotel. They block lounge access for hotel guests and visitors at specific times of the day. Parking lot is always jammed. Book this place cheap since that's the only way you will get value for money! The 3.5 stars rating they claim is totally not justified. The brand positioning they use for advertising is a CON GAME!

Indian Hotel Vedas

I have been in shanghai china for about 15 days and had a lunch and dinner in hotel VEDAS, it's really typical Indian cuisine. I loved it for it's food quality and Indian taste. People serving food are very good and cooperative.

Valuble for price except servi....

The reception won't greeting to you and without any smile when i check in. the room size is good, but the design and the goods in the bath room is not like a four-star hotel as it was rated. The location is good, if you want to the railway station, and also you can book a taxi by using Uber to the airport. Old fashion decorated. And the Chinese name shall be translated as Vienna International Hotel, not Hollyear. So the hotel afraid something? Hahahaha

don't go with high expectation....

I stayed in this hotel for 3 nights, I found the staff to be welcoming and friendly, english not fluent but I was able to get by, by using a translator app. They understand basic words like "passport, key and taxi". The entrance is spacious, clean and the decor beautiful. The room itself was ample size for myself with a separate sofa area. The bath was small and didn't run "hot" water. The shower was powerful though. The room was clean and had everything I needed, including complimentary bottled water and tea. I did however order room service by leaving a menu on my door handle and it was not collected and therefore I did not receive breakfast, so I was a little bit "peeved" to say the least! The bed was hard but that is normal for china. Wifi is available in the lobby and there are only Chinese channels on TV. The location was right by the train station and therefore Shanghai quite accessible. I have no major complaints about this hotel. It is not perfect and I have stayed in better but I would not say that this hotel is terrible. Just don't go with high expectations and you won't be disappointed.
