Very nice hotel in a very nice....
By far, the best place we stayed in during our tour around China! Very nice rooms, very clean, immaculate service, unbelievable views. Nice continental breakfast (both European and Asian style). There is a very nice food hall near by.

Very good hotel, but not locat....
Good room, everything functioned well; the bathroom had blinds to close the view to the bedroom. Interesting view from our room, you can clearly see the old building of Shanghai being torn down. They have a good self-serve laundry room. There are two markets next door. The hotel is in the Arts district, on a street preserved the way it was a hundred years ago. There is a church, a bookstore, a modern art museum worth visiting, several restaurants and arts studios; very little through traffic, just bicycles and electric motor bikes. We extended our stay after the tour ended. It's about a 20 minute walk to the closest Metro.

A four star hotel at a low pri....
We are a company of six people, taking a trip recently to Shanghai, Suzhou and Wusi. Kingtown hotel is the hotel we stayed on the first and last day of our tour because it is closed to Hungqiao international airport. The hotel is within walking distance to mtr station. About 10 minutes if you know the short cut.
The staff at the reception were very warm to receive us when we checked in. At the dinning room on the M floor where we had buffet breakfast, there was a young lady who helped to carry the food we picked up to the table. I have never had such service in hotels elsewhere.
The hotel room is not large but you have everything you need. One thing I like about this hotel is the room lights are well designed and quite bright. I have been in some hotel which the room lights are so dim that one can scaecely see things. There are many small supermarkets just round the corner where you can get all kinds of food. If you know how to find, there are shanghai style breakfast in an alley within 15 minutes walk from the hotel where you can have a feast at only $10-15 rmb per head.
In the past hotel rooms in China were well designed but poorly maintained. This is not the case anymore. The room facilities were well maintained. The rooms we stayed were standard two bed rooms, equivalent to four star standard but is only between 300-500 rmb(chinese yuan). Where else you can get such good deal?

Very recommendable hotel
We stayed here for a few nights as part of an organized group trip. Maybe coming from other parts of China, the hotel felt like a return to Western style of living. We enjoyed the clean and well organized room. The location is great, lots of shops, banks and little snack places just around the corner. For a European visitor, maybe the biggest advantage is that a Metro station is about 10 minutes away on foot. This made us feel very independent, once we understood the tariff system.
On the downside, one may mention that there is no real lobby or bar where you can sit in the evening (which is very normal in China). Also the claim that the hotel is in walking distance from the Bund is a bit ambitious. We walked to the Bund, which was a very interesting tour, but it took us about 20 minutes to get there.

Not the place for a tourist
I recently stayed here as part of an English speaking tour group from the USA. Needless to say, the staff did not speak any English and they were unable to help me with any of my questions. The rooms were nice, but the hallway and elevators were dirty. The first few floors of the hotel were for businesses and these businesses apparently allowed smoking, because you could smell the smoke. On one occasion there was a water leak which stopped the elevators from working. I had to walk down 15 flights of stairs. There was no lights in the stair well and it was very dirty. When I got to the lower floors there were people smoking in the area. If you are a tourist and do not speak Mandarin I would not recommend this location.
