Good location but no English s....
Front office staff were unfriendly and spoke no English. Without TPINs to go with our credit cards, we had no choice but to pay the room charges by cash.
It was most frustrating for us as we could not connect to WiFi for the first 2 days. With a smattering of Chinese, we tried to clarify the password with front office staff but they could not offer any explanation. On the 3rd day, we discovered (by trial and error) that the password displayed at the front counter was incorrect - the 10 digit password on display was hyphenated but actual password was without hyphen!
We had a decent-sized room (8617) with a large King size bed. However, the mattress was very hard. Throughout our 5-night stay, I woke up every morning with a nagging backache since I'm not used to hard beds.
On the plus side, a 5-minute walk takes you to Carrefour hypermarket, restaurants and shopping outlets along Nanping Business Street.

Value for money
I have booked 2 rooms thru CTRIP and we arrived the hotel at 6:30p.m.However the rooms is not ready at 8.00p.m.However they still charged me for (one night). The bed is very hard and the hot heater is not working well.None of them can speak English.
Great location, close to restaurants, shopping and Carrefour. Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. Hotel is quite new. Strangely there is a big pillar in every room. From airport to hotel costs 100yen and to airport 120-130 yen. We stayed in discount room, with a bigger than king size bed, only for 209 yen, weekend 219 yen. Highly recommended for budget travellers.

Good for a stopover stay
There are a couple of Fairyland hotels within 7 mins walk. This Fairyland Baoshan rate is higher, could be due to it being new. I saw another Fairyland in the same complex as New Era hotel and understand that the room size is bigger.
We booked a night at Fairyland Boashan for arrival and departure from Kunming thru elong, RMB230-240(rates differ for each stay).
Location - along Baoshan street , 2 mins walk is Carrefour, 7 mins is New Era hotel, Wangfujing, Parkson and New World shopping center. The last has several good restaurants (level 4 onwards). Across the hotel is a good breadshop and cafe.
Checkin- fast but the 2 staff can only communicate in Chinese. Small lobby with a common PC for guests to use.
Staff - Morning - afternoon staff were courteous and helpful.
The night-early morning admin is a pain. Earlier, the afternoon admin assured us that their staff will call for a taxi for us if we informed 30 mins ahead. But, it was a different story the next morning. Their staff( a thin guy) refused to call a taxi for us and said that we can hail from the street. It was drizzling too. Luckily, we had a handphone to call for a taxi.
We met this unhelpful admin again on our return trip, and he demonstrated his lack of competencies by entering the wrong billing on my credit card transaction.
Room - size differs , so ask to see the rooms first. Hotel pics represent the biz room(we took room 8020). Clean room with an IKEAish furniture, but well co-ordinated, with a king or twin size beds.. Shower(enclosure) is a decent size , so toilet floor will be dry.
A semi frosted bathroom faces the room's door, so make sure that your room occupant does open the door when you are in the bathroom.
Walls - seems to be thin as we could hear some communication going along the passageway, but then the locals talk loud. Friends who stayed over a weekend had a bad experience due to the noises from the next room.
For a budget hotel, it does offer complimentary green tea satchets, disposable slippers, toothbrush, combs and a shopping bag(handy and light to carry around).
Full size dispensers of body and hair shampoo are available in the shower room.
Aircon works fine with no noise.
Each room comes with a Chinese breakfast for one, but we skipped it after having a look.
Overall, a good option for stopover.
