Dirty, Old and Dilapidated
White Palace Hotel was recommended by a potential supplier when I requested for the best hotel to stay near their office in Panyu District. My first advise... don't be fooled by their nice photos especially the one of the facade with the statue of the horses... because it sure fooled me.
I really have nothing nice to say about this hotel except that it's right beside the wholesale areas where I intended to find suppliers for my business. On my next trip, I will stay at the Mandarin Hotel (connected to the best mall Taikoo Hui), Marriott, Fraser Suites, etc. which are only less than 30 minutes away by car.
I was told by my local travel agent that the front desk staff at this hotel can speak English, no problem. Upon arrival... oh yes a problem! I had to download the Speak & Translate app to be able to converse with them.
I booked their best suite. Upon entering the room, the stench of cigarette smoke was bad. Actually the whole hotel smelled bad. The carpet were full of tears, stains and was just disgusting. Shower tiles had molds and stains. Fabric sofas gave me an itch when I sat on it. The mattress was as hard as the floor. When I tried to plug the fridge to the outlet behind the tv, the heavy build up of dust was unimaginable. Dust dust everywhere!
Hallways were creepy. Local guests smoked anywhere they pleased even inside the elevator! First morning I came down before 8:00am for breakfast and as expected, it was terrible. The tables were filthy and oily! Staff sat behind the chafing dishes and were also eating. Worse, I saw one stood up, went around and got some more food using her own chopsticks! Unbelievable!
If you're coming to this area for business and have money to spend, I suggest you stay somewhere else like where the beautiful Taikoo Hui shopping mall is located. Plenty of good hotels there. This one was a nightmare!

Dusty and dubious
This was the first hotel I stayed at in China, whilst the room was 'roomy' it was dirty and obviously hadn't been dusted or money spent on maintainance for awhile. Don't know what was happening to other parts of the building complex but it was obvious the place had become some sort of building site. Not an impressive first impression.

So so sojourn
Three days in Guangzhou to meet up with friends. My wife had stayed there previously so seeking somewhere else didn't factor.
Why it requires five staff to conduct a checkin I don't know, but bureaucracy is alive and well in China.
No distinction between smoking and non smoking, our room smelt but our pillows didn't.
Typical ultra hard bed (2 x kings)in a quite large room. Bathroom and facilities clean and probably good value.
The bonus is that the airport express stops at the door.

Do not come here!
This is a lousy hotel. The hotel next to it is being destroyed for renovation. Same should be for this hotel.
Room is big but no so clean.
As opposed to all hotel that give you 2 free water bottle, here you pay for them. Breakfast has 2-3 western things to eat.
Staff at lobby talks no English. I asked them for a taxi to the bus station so they sent me to a wrong station.
Will never come back here.
