Really need to upgrade. Overall, very run down, old facilities, smelly room. Only plus point are room size is reasonable ok and walking distance to MRT. Their staff is below service level standard, rude and unfriendly.

Stayed there during the Canton Fair in May. Can't even be called a hotel. Staff at reception don't even speak english. Rooms are dirty
No safe in rooms. Discovered ash of cigarettes in tea facilities. Mattress is very hard. Bedsheets dirty with holes. Never ever again!

It's clean but the toilet was not good, it can't flush correctly. At the other room, my friend can't use their key to open the door and they needed to change room.

Large comforable rooms
Hua hai hotel has 2 wings - the rooms are large, so is the clean bathroom. TV has 3 Englishi channels (cctv, mtv and atv). The free broadband internet is very fast. There is a western restaurant on 1st floor, but unfortunately this starts only at 8 am for breakfast (15 rmb). There are a lot of food stalls closeby, esp. street food. For those who prefer unhealthy food, there is a Mc Donalds and KFC on the same road.
However, the room was a bit dusty in the corners (noticed after staying for a day). The corridor has a musty smell and a bit run down. Heating is not very good (thankfully it was not so cold when I stayed).
The metro station is 5 minutes walk away, and so are many bus stops. Views are lousy - just a lot of buildings - but perhaps that is so all over Guangzhou. My room faced behind and was quiet.
All in all, for 250 rmb per night, it is good value for money.
