Very good hotel for the money ....

This hotel is an older hotel and in need of a lot of refurbishing but I found the staff to be very efficient and obliging and the room very large, clean and very comfortable large bed with a huge shower recess and all kep very clean and in excellent order. The hotel is excellent value for the money charged and I would definitely stay there again.

Free stay when we flew with Ch....

Huge rooms: It felt like an apartment and I've never had a room so large. We travelled as a family of four which meant they gave our two teen age children an equally nice room to themselves. Even the bathroom had a phone in it and was about 12' square with a huge walk in shower. In it's time, this hotel was probably quite the fancy place with the grand curved staircase up to the breakfast/restaurant and the massive marble pillars in the foyer. It probably catered to the elite, but now it is considered a "discount" hotel - probably because there is no functional pool, etc. and the upkeep of the place is kind of strange (by North American standards). I see from their website that if you book directly with them, a room will cost about $36/night USThere are no English TV channels, but my daughter was able to get some wifi while there. The windows are single pane glass and poorly sealed which allows dust and smog stink to come in even though they are closed. The beds were huge, flat, and not very comfortable, but I've heard that Asians prefer that harder surface type of bed. When we went for the breakfast in the morning, we asked for napkins, and the waiter, who happened to be wearing rubber boots, handed us a roll of toilet paper. The banister along the stairs were clean, but the matching banister beside our table overlooking the stairs was coated in dust which meant the housekeeping staff were not properly cleaning all public surfaces to a proper healthy standard, especially since it was right beside our breakfast table. The breakfast food was a complete mystery to us other than the recognizable yams, and boiled eggs. You just have to count it as an adventure if you are not used to eating authentic Chinese food. The China Southern Airlines included this hotel as our place to stay which also included free transportation back and forth to the airport. Although it claims to be a four star, it is probably lower in reality. If you fly with China Southern Airlines, perhaps there is a way of insisting on at least a five star hotel for that free layover. I did enjoy exploring the open market right across the street from the hotel which was filled with many exotic choices: everything from freshly butchered animal parts hanging without any 'sneeze covers' to book bags and pajamas. We were looking for silk clothing, but I guess they are not as commonly found in this particular area which was a disappointment.

Looks Better in the Photos

I got stuck here, because I missed a connecting flight due to a flight delay. The beds are rock hard. It looks somewhat modern, but misses the mark, because it looks worn down. Luckily, there was AC. You can hear all the noise outside through the thin windows. It's clean enough, but I would not voluntarily pay to stay here. I didn't even want to stay here for free.
