A very pleasant stay!

The main reason why we chose Hilbin is it's the last/first station for Airport Express bus route no 5 (We are glad we chose this as we brought back 9 luggages/box, and being the first stop to airport, we are able to put all into the bus, hassle free transport to and fro airport). We booked through Agoda. We paid extra RMB138 (for all the 7 nights) for upgrade to newly renovated and non smoking room. We were given gold membership for lifetime use. Ms He let us check in early and to save time, she asked us to collect the breakfast voucher the next morning. Room is spacious and clean. Toilet is leaking and we requested to change room, the process was done quickly and without much hassle. Location: Although the hotel is not near MRT (800m walk), we took public bus (rmb 2 per ride) throughout our stay. There's 3 bus stops near hotel. We used Baidu map to navigate around. It's 10 minutes walk to Beijing Road. Housekeeping is done promptly daily and we borrowed: Iphone charger and scotch tape. Overall a pleasant stay!

Comfortable

Located in city centre. Front office staff is cooperative. Room is quite big and well maintained. Well equipped with all basic requirements. Also have small refrigerator. Washroom is also good enough. Overall good stay and well recommend for next stay.

Large Hotel with old principle....

The hotel is placed in a upmarket area however the exterior is modern but the internal fittest are old world. Communication with hotel staff at the counter, at restaurants is very difficult unless you know Chinese language. The staff does not display empathy to your not knowing their language which is a strange mindset. There are two restaurants, which serve reasonable good local food. If you are not fussy about food you can eat here. They are not very expensive. However, just asking for a beer or a sauce may bring you to tears. It helps to carry pictures. Though the Hotel is close to Metro station, Pearl River walk front, Beijing Road (lu), maps cannot be depended on and you may spend hours walking around in circles. The hotel has some street shops areas nearby provided you are the explorer variety. I managed a foot massage, a haircut and local street fare. Breakfast spread is entirely local and I took full advantage of the 7-11 opposite the hotel. An ATM for cash withdrawals is located right next to the 7-11 store. Remember not may exchange shops in China and they are all closed on the weekend. The hotel is about 40 min away from the Canton Fair complex however, the hotel does organise a bus service to and fro from the fair complex. The service is time bound and beyond that you can depend on the taxi if you manage to communicate or manage to crack the metro.

Don't let looks deceive you...

Alright, let me begin my review by saying I recently stayed at the Hilbin Hotel from June 5th-17th. That's approximately 13 days, minus the 2 nights that we stayed down in Hong Kong. We chose this hotel because it was relatively close to my grandparents' home in Guangzhou by the China Plaza, and was one of the few hotels in Guangzhou that had a 3 guest room available. When we first arrived at the hotel, it seemed very nice on the outside. It's really convenient if you are planning on using public transportation while you are in Guangzhou (not renting a car) because it is close to bus stations, the metro stations, and is one of the stops for the Airport Express buses from the Baiyun Airport. Our room was on the 10th floor. When we stepped out of the elevator, we felt as if there was a really strong, musky odor, but ignored it for the duration for our trip because the room didn't have the same smell. It was very spacious, with a decent view at some buildings (although there is construction behind the hotel) AC, free wifi (connection likes to time out) and the beds are comfortable. Our room also had a couch and a desk/table. Our bad experience began with the housekeeping service. They never seemed to understand that the SIZE of the room we booked CLEARLY STATES that there are 3 guests. They would always give us 2 of everything: towels, hand towels, mugs, glasses, etc. Most hotels give you extra towels, enough for at least one person to use two, but this hotel doesn't even give you enough for each person! We spoke with the front desk person about it, and we do know how to speak Chinese so the language barrier was not an issue for us, but they EXPLICITLY STATED 'We give towels based off how many people are sleeping in the room, there is one large bed which sleeps 2, and a smaller bed that sleeps 1 so....' SO WHY DO WE HAVE TWO SETS OF THINGS? They are like most Chinese workers, not really caring and just doing bare minimum for the wage. After our trip to Hong Kong and returning to Hilbin, the same problem persisted (as it had even after our numerous complaints to the front desk). My mom finally yelled at the housekeeping lady and explained to her that they needed to change it in the system because we were tired of getting back to the hotel at 10pm with not enough towels and having to go all the way down to the lobby again to request more. It seemed like after my mom lost her temper, they finally understood and always gave us the right number of towels for the remainder of the trip. On the last few days of our trip, I was really tired, so spent all day sleeping in the hotel. My mom told housekeeping that I would be in the room but they were free to still come in, change the towels, empty out the trash, etc. The first day that I watched them come in, they didn't even vacuum! Our floor wasn't the cleanest, there were already specks from hiking, etc. Bed sheets were not changed and merely made, I pretended to be asleep on the couch. The second day, the housekeeper decided to vacuum, and I'm not sure if this was a part of a schedule, or because my mom was in the room as well, or... Towards the later part of my trip, my legs started getting VERY itchy. After clawing away like a not very smart person, I ended up with about 15 red mini welted spots on my right leg in a spread out cluster, and a few smaller ones on my other leg. Upon arriving home, I realized that these weren't mosquito bites like I had assumed earlier, but BED. BUG. BITES. I am FURIOUS. Although I do admit that I made another not very smart choice of taking a nap on the floor one day after complete exhaustion of hiking Baiyun Mountain, I AM UNSURE WHY I SHOULD HAVE BED BEGS FROM THIS HOTEL. My mother slept in the same bed as me and has some of the same bites (but much less than myself). To this day, we don't know where the bed bugs were from (the couch, the bed, the first room we stayed in, or the second room). But if you are given Room 1022 or 1023 DOUBLE CHECK EVERYTHING before you get comfy. Should have paid attention to the musky smell in the hallway and been much more cautious. Definitely, think twice before booking. The location is a plus, the restaurants downstairs are convenient, but typically only if you are of some asian descent. It is all dimsum and asian cuisine. It is a good deal, rounding out at about 70usd per night via Agoda. But if you have high expectations and don't want to play on luck, choose elsewhere.

Bad serve,Bad breakfast,Bad co....

We faced problem with the reception who could not speak and understand in English,we reserved for 5 rooms (one of bussiness suite and one for deluxe and 3 for superior),she could not manage the rooms as we needed but anyway the manager was trying to solve the problem and manage instead of her. We paid 38 rmb for breakfast per person per meal but the food for breakfast was only boil rice,fried veg,boil egg ,noodle and some sweet..so terrible and bad. Room was quite ok but the carpet needed to clean oftenly since there were some odor.
