Staff were Lovely but...
Lets start with the positives.. The staff were lovely. they always tried to talk to us and make us feel welcome.
However, the place is in need of a major upgrade. The rooms were neat but outdated. The drains in the Bathrooms need to be cleaned as we were forced to go out and buy cleaning agents to pour down the drain as the smell was unbelivable terrible.
For those who do not know Mandarin communicating can be a bit of a challege if the English speaking Worker is not working that day.
However, they do offfer tours at a good price. But beware the tour guides will try to make you give a large tip. It seems to me that they go on assumption that tourists have a lot of money. I pay no attenion to this and tip what I feel to be reasonable. A tip is discretionary NOT compulsory especially when you have already paid for a tour.
I would not stay here again as I have found a lovely gem not too far from this hotel but it is bearable if you will be out for most of the day.

super 8 Beijing.
A proper local area hotel in the heart of Beijing. Easily reached by airport taxi and metro station is only 300m. Bars , shops and restaurants all with in a very short walk. Very none tourist area. We were treated fantastically by all the local business owners and staff who all made for a worthwhile holiday. Not much English spoken in this area but that all add to the fun.

Down an alley
This hotel was difficult to find and on the average side but those were the only real downers. It was clean and basic, which is what we were looking for. It is close to the denshikou station which is just around the corner. Down the road you have a huge touristy shopping area with the famous night market that sells weird snacks such as live scorpions on a stick... It is only a short train ride to tianammen square and the forbidden palace. Downstairs from the hotel there is a place that organises tours to the Great Wall.... Idk... I think they took us to not a very good part of the wall, apparently this is a common tourist scam in Beijing.... Nevermind! We seen the wall anyway! Although this hotel is down an alley way I think it lends to it's charm as it is a quite and cute Chinesey street :)

Ok and a little pricey
This was our fist hotel in china. Price per night was £50, had wifi in the room. Room was ok, not bad size for China, not very well decorated or should I say was in need of redecoration. Hot water was fine, service was not really great as nobody was speaking a word of English. The whole hotel just looked really tired and a bit tucked away from everything.
There are better places around for that much money.

Upon arriving in Beijing after a 10 hour flight, we arrived at the hostel only to find they had no record of our reservation. Luckily they had a room for the 3 nights I had pre-booked! We also had to pay a deposit of 200 RMB which I thought was a little steep seeing as we had prepaid. In addition, the supposed free wifi..oh that doesn't work. I could not connect to anything except me emails which I have set up on my phone. Useless, especially when we have no clue where we are or how to get around. They had no English maps so we were a little lost for 3 days.
