The location was great, both in terms access to transport bus/metro and in the Hutong (picturesque neighborhood.) The room was clean and the attendants were courteous and helpful. The place is not very clean (cafeteria and coffee area was filthy) and I wasn't comfortable that the staff could do anything above and beyond greeting us and providing basic directions. It a good low-end, no-thrills option. Decor is also kitschy to the extreme (think Chinese Disneyworld themepark). On the plus side, the landlady was very fair and reasonable (we had some issues with initial checkin) and she's not out to scalp anybody, while not exactly friendly by western standards, she exhibited traditional Beijing hospitality that many Chinese would be able to relate to. If you are on a budget and are planning to stay for an extended period of time (over one week), then consider this as an option, otherwise, if you are in Beijing for an overnight stay, opt for a more high end alternative.
If possible get a room on the second floor as rooms on the first floor rooms have no windows.
