Rip off Cons at every turn
Although the rooms are quite nice and spacious and the hotel is conveniently situated the are little cons you need to be aware of.
Free swimming pool? Well not exactly... You are not allowed to swim unless you buy their 80 yuan swim cap. So 4 people = 320 yuan.
Next don't listen to reception and pay for all your meals at reception so as you get their considerable discounts, they will tell you no need just pay when you go to eat and if you do be prepared to pay an extra 50%. These are just a few things we come across but I am sure there are many more money making scams.
Non smoking rooms smell of smoke.

The hotel is very conveniently located downtown Bejing. Also a bit old, the hotel still is worth the 5 star classification. Rooms are big and comfortable with a nice desk to do some work. Internet is working well. Gym and pool is also a nice extra!

Average five star hotel
The rooms are nice but nothing exceptional if you take into account that it is a five star hotel. Breakfats offers a variety of food and choices. If you want to use the swimming be aware that you need a cap.
During my entire stay the heating system was way too hot and there was always a smell of cigarette coming into my room.

Stayed 4 nights. Good location, 10 min to subway but food and entertainment is just about everywhere outside the hotel. Clean room but the breakfast option is too expensive. Overall satisfied with the stay.

Nice choice but not 5*-level
I have stayed in the Kuntai Royal Hotel for 4 nights as a beginning of a 3 weeks holiday in China. Our stay was OK and I would describe the Kuntai as a nice hotel which came a little bit into the years. We did not mind that it was a little worn-out as the bed were comfortable and the food very nice – on a Western and Chinese base. We had breakfast and dinner there and it was a plus that also the drinks have been included in the buffet price, even beer and wine.
The staff was friendly but not very helpful as they barely spoke any English. Having said that, I did not feel any effort of being supported as the current state of not being able to understand our matters has been taken for granted. If you don’t experience a problem, you might enjoy a lovely stay but in our case, we would not even have been able to check in appropriately without our tour guide’s translation.
As we experienced extremely loud music coming from somewhere in the hotel, our tour guide managed to get us a new room and the hotel granted us a free upgrade, which we appreciated a lot. On the contrary, I was not amused to having been charged with a higher amount for dinner because the staff did not understand us correctly. If you book your dinner at the reception, you get a discount but as no one was able to explain the procedure to us although we notified the reception that we are going to have dinner again. And at the end, I ended up paying more money for the lack of insufficient understanding.
That’s why I personally would not stay there again as for a 5* hotel which indicates their staff being capable of speaking English, they need to take action and offer adequate training. I am sure they will one day but right now, please be make sure you have someone with you for translation.
