this hostel is located very close to the beijing railway station. we could hear the clock of the railway ring every hour. the exit of the subway is right beside the gate of the hostel. the rooms are very basic and toilets and bathrooms are shared. they are clean though. there are supermarkets, places to eat, shopping malls and everything we need just few steps from the hostel.

Handy for station but not much....
Stayed here with a friend for one night as we were catching a train with a tour group from Beijing Station the next day, and the hostel is literally across the road. CN¥168 for a room with a window. Functional. TV but only Chinese channels.
The shared bathrooms were ok but not especially clean, and many of the cubicles for showers and loos didn't lock. There's a couple of Western loos on each floor. There's a self-service laundry on each floor.
We came back to stay for 5 nights after my tour because it was convenient, but in hindsight this was probably a mistake. There are better places for not much more money in less frenetic locations.
Staff didn't speak much English but we're always helpful.

Stay away unless in a one day ....
The only positive I can say is it's a great location with easy access to the train station and subway.
It's noisy, the beds are hard. The bathroom smelled/stank. Night person on duty was not very good at understanding english, and the others were mediocre to bad as well.

good location, but not again
first the good bits - right next to the station and even closer to the underground. Decent supermarket and shopping centre almost directly underneath in the subway station entrance, plenty of cheap places to eat, not too far from many of the main sights, Free wi-fi, and not too expensive.
However, beds are rock hard, and I like futons! Noisy, my legs were bitten all over by bugs, virtually every toilet and shower door was broken, and electric wires poking out everywhere.
So whilst not a total disaster, not somewhere I would recommend.

Disclaimer: To date, this is my one and only Chinese hostel experience - so for all I know, Beijing City Central Youth Hotel might be outstanding value for money. Having just stayed at some amazing hostels in Europe, however, I struggled with the drop in standard. Culture shock, perhaps.
The good: The location. Beijing City Central Youth Hotel is located straight across from the city's central train station. It has big, bold signage. You cannot miss it, therefore you will be able to find it despite your utter lack of communication skills.
The online booking system appears to work. Staff at reception speak some English. There is a lift. There is a secure baggage room. Complimentary boiling water is available in the corridor. Just bring your own cup-o-noodles like all your fellow guests.
If our anonymity is your thing, look no further.
My double-room had 2 beds with bedding and air con, which worked. I stayed two nights only.
The not so good: The room looked shabby and felt grimy. It faced the main square and was noisy as. There's stores with outdoor speakers blasting pre-recorded messages or duff-duff music until late at night just beneath you. The walls are thin, and sounds from the corridor travel instantly. Do not enter without earplugs. I repeat: Do not enter without earplugs.
The shared bathroom seems to be miles away, and only has a few grungy shower and toilet stalls. Cleaning staff will insist on entering your room, regardless of your wishes or of what you are doing at the time. Despite the many cleaning staff on the premises, nothing ever appeared to be overly clean.
The ugly: There was no wi-fi. Neither in the reception area, as staff assured me, nor anywhere else within or near the building.
