We stayed here for a couple of nights with my partner & parents. It is situated in a Hutong area, just off the main road (Xisi N Street) and not difficult to find. The lobby doubles as a little shop selling refreshments and a small assortment of handicrafts, and the courtyard is really quite charming. Most rooms face the courtyard, but our rooms (standard category) were in a back wing of the hotel. While the hotel was not bad, there were some things that irritated us.
- just a few minutes walk to the next subway station (Ping'anli)
- a couple of shops and restaurants in close proximity
- clean rooms and bathroom
- friendly and helpful staff
- laundry service
- overall the hotel is very worn, especially the corridors (carpets, wallpapers etc.)
- rooms were very small and with little storage place (although this is common in many Beijing hotels of similar category)
- windows opened onto the corridor in our particular section of the hotel (and the corridor looked dreadful)
- very problematic wifi
- surroundings of the hotel overall not that impressive
To sum it up: the hotel was not bad, but I have definitely experienced better value for money in Beijing.

Asked to stay at a hotel that was off the 'beaten path' and where the local Chinese might stay. Was booked at the Beijing 161 beihai Courtyard Hotel which was located down an alley street in a local neighborhood. Although felt somewhat skeptical about the location at first, never felt threatened at any time, day or evening. The hotel was located near several local restaurants and within easy walking distance.to many restaurants and local stores and markets. The room was very small and sparse in furnishings although adequate for sleeping and bathing. Exceptionally cheap for what you were offered. Unless you can converse in Chinese, would not recommend this hotel; otherwise okay for a cheap and localized stay. Very quaint.

This hotel is in a good location IF youl follow the right address. Be careful my boyfriend and I walked down the road for a good half an hour confused as to where the hotel is. Booking.com have the wrong address, I have not checked others but I know trip advisor does have the correct address. 100034 (not 100035)
You can easily get to the hotel from the airport via train and metro. The hotel is close to the metro which you can easily access to visit tourist locations.
The rooms are good and pretty much what you see on the photos, however walls are a little thin so you can hear a lot however the hotel are going to be fixing that. Staff are lovely spoke English well. Very friendly and helpful.
Good for your money also!

Hotel in hutong area
Relatively nice hotel in hutong area not far away from Ping'anli metro station. Rooms kinda noisy because they have very thin walls, so everytime someone walks around or just talk, you can hear everything.

A Nice Hideaway
We liked this hotel very much, it was not too far away from the metro station and across the road from a number of eateries, one in particular which we frequented a lot for the good food and service. The hotel itself was a nice little hideaway amongst the hustle, bustle and heat of Beijing. The staff were lovely and friendly. The hotel was clean. It was basic, but all you needed really was a clean bed, somewhere to wash and somewhere to sleep. So it ticked all the boxes for us and once you closed your bedroom door it was very quiet. So no complaints and would stay here again and would recommend to others to stay too. (Only complaints for us were the smelly drains and the mosquitoes, both of which the hotel have no control over).
