A sprawling resort away from t....
Really enjoyed our relaxing stay at the Aman Summer Palace. So much history at this resort and throughout the rooms. We had a spacious room through a private courtyard to the right of the entrance. The staff tried to be very accommodating and mostly understood our requests or got someone to translate for them. We loved getting exclusive access to the Summer Palace before it opened and just before it closed at night. It is a bit of a haul to downtown Beijing from the Aman. It took around 45 minutes without much traffic in a car. Good thing taxis are cheap :) We also really enjoyed the enormous spa, pool and theatre below ground which was usually empty. We did hire a driver and guide through Bespoke Travel to drive us to the Great Wall, Tiananmen Square and Forbidden City. The hotel can arrange private taxis for you or you can download their "Uber" app for yourself since it can be hard to waive down a taxi in the city. The subway system was easy to navigate but takes a long time all the way back to the Aman. I'm glad we visited Beijing!

A peaceful place, home feeling
My family and I had a wonderful stay in this unique Aman home next to the Summer Palace, very warm hospitality from the management and staff. Rooms were clean, very large space, supper comfortable bed, all staff were very friendly, helpful and home feeling. Excellent food and especially the Peking Dusk, it tastes so yummy.
Overall, we did enjoy our visit in Beijing and excursions were well arranged to most quiet part of the Great Wall, our guide Nicky was very knowledgeable and friendly as well as our driver.

Amazing weekend here before departure. A century old and beautifully restored but not changed. A tiny village with back door private access to the Empress CiXi's private gardens and palace. And beneath quite an amazing pool and spa.

Our family of three stayed for three nights in Mar. We were treated like royalties throughout the stay, service staff are ever so attentive yet discreet. Although occupancy rate at the hotel was high there were lots of privacy. A very peaceful stay and indeed a memorable experience. The bonus was being able to enter the Summer Palace before the crowd arrive. We were able to catch sunrise and take many wonderful pictures without people in the background. Having the whole park to ourselves was such a treat. Although the restaurant prices are not cheap food served is of decent quality. Special mention to Fiona and her team for looking after us so well and the tour guide Melinda that was assigned to us. Staying at Aman properties are not cheap but you pay for what you get. We hope to come back again one day.

A Bucket-List Destination
If money and time are no object, it would be malpractice to not encourage travelers to experience the Aman Summer Palace in Beijing. It's truly a unique property, having been built in what was once part of the Chinese royal family's Summer Palace. You truly live like an emperor here with rooms and public spaces that are sumptuous but not in a vulgar way. The complex is vast but there are fewer than 100 rooms and suites. Upon check in I was escorted to my suite (an upgrade) which was vast and very private. I was eventually upgraded again to a pavilion suite which was truly unique. To say that every whim was anticipated and catered to doesn't do the experience justice. After the first morning at breakfast where I ordered a few cappuccinos, the food and beverage manager personally saw to installing a commercial grade expresso machine into my room. The Chinese restaurant is excellent and my friends and I dined there several times for dinner. The one downside is that the Summer Palace is in one of the outer rings of the city so it's a good 30 minute drive (minimum) from where most of the sights are. The idea of coming back from a day of exploring, changing, and then heading back for another roundtrip sometimes was daunting so we ate at the hotel more often and weren't disappointed. There's also a special entrance to the Summer Palace grounds from the hotel which was great. I had two massages in the spa (also sumptuous) which were among the best I've ever had. It was all capped off by watching a screening of the Last Emperor in their private theater, just for me and my two friends, popcorn included! Amazing attention and service from the general manager on down. I hope to return some day.
