Nice area, nice view, very RJ
Leblon is one of the nicest and safest neiborhoods in Rio, and you have everything you'd need (transportation, supermarket, restaurants, bars, fast food, the beach, a mall) within two or three blocks.
The flats seem to depend on the owner so try to ensure you have updated pictures if you're renting and that they belong to the actual flat. My particular experience was the best, on one of the top floors, overlooking the beach and the morro, with a totally refurbished and modern apartment. Complete with a kitchen, you can basically live there.
The building itself is a different story, if you don't speak or understand portuguese you won't be able to communicate with the staff. Not that speaking portuguese would be terribly helpful, because the staff just isn't.
There's also a very Rio feel to it, in the sense of, for example, having the pool closed "for repairs" in the middle of summer.

Melhor Custo Beneficio do Lebl....
Melhor Custo Beneficio do Leblon.

A localização é o ponto forte desse local. Os funcionários são muito atenciosos. Os preços variam muito de acordo com os proprietários. Mas, vale muito a pena.

We stayed for one week in November 2013. First the good points. The location is wonderful, in Leblon, an upmarket district in Rio, safe, with many cafes and restaurants nearby and next door to Rio Design Leblon Shopping and across the road from the Leblon Shopping centre.
But - the apartment was seriously in need of a complete overhall. We were on the 6th floor, not high enough to be mosquito free and we were all badly bitten. There was a living room with a sofa bed, bedroom, bathroom and kitchen. The kitchen was dreadful, the fridge should have been thrown out ages ago and had broken shelves. The microwave and hot water system were primitive, the equipment limited and there were broken hinges on the cupboard doors. Since there was no frying pan, I made a mushroom sauce in a cake tin, and then used this to serve the dish on the table!! When we arrived there were no matches to light the gas cooker, the washing up sponge was old and dirty and several cups and dishes were cracked. These were changed when we complained, but nothing was done about the fridge. The bathroom was probably 20 years old, perhaps something you would find in a 2 star hotel. The airconditioning in the bedroom was old and very noisy, ditto the living room, although perhaps not quite so noisy. The cordless telephone should have been in a museum, ditto the large, old TV. The venetian blinds in the living room were broken, so our son, using the sofa bed, could not darken the room. We had to supply everything, toilet paper, soap, hair dryer, although they did produce an iron which we were allowed to use for 24 hours. We had to ask for the towels to be changed, and since they were rather threadbare in the first place, they would not have been sufficient for a second day. We had maid service every day, which was great. There was a view of the lagoa and the Christ, but a new building will shortly block this.
I believe the apartments on the higher floors are better, but we were not given the option. We paid 300 RS per night, which is about £100. If you take an apartment for a month the cost is about 7,000 RS, so a slight discount.
Obviously the management is wanting, the apartment was not checked properly - cracked crockery, no matches etc etc should never have happened. We were told the fridge would be changed but I very much doubt this will happen.
In short, the apartment was completely sub-standard, although the location was terrific.

Comfortable and safe stay in R....
I stayed at the Rio Flat Hotel (apart-hotel) for 10 nights in December 2011. The hotel is located in Leblon, very close to Ipanema. The neighborhood is great, since you can find anything you want near the hotel. There are a lot of cafes, restaurants and bars of any kind. The hotel is also just near the Shopping Leblon and Rio Design Leblon, two nice shopping centers. The is also a grocery (Zona Sul) at one block from the hotel. In the hotel area, you always feel safe, even when walking alone late a night. The Leblon beach is only two blocks away and the Lagoa at a 10 minutes walk.
I had a room on the 29th floor (the highest floor) with a beautiful view on the Lagoa and the Leblon beach. Since it's an apart-hotel, I had mostly what I needed to live comfortably for a long period. I had a complete kitchen and dining room, an area for the living room with a flat screen TV and a sofa, and one medium bedroom. The room was renovated partially, but a lot nicer than other rooms I had in Copacabana or Flamengo. Since it is an apart-hotel, there is a maid service, but you have to take care yourself about washing towels, buying the toilet paper and the soap, etc.
There is a cable (RJ-45) access to Internet in the room. You must call the technical support from the hotel to activate it (some people speak english there). You can also have a wifi access in the lobby and in the restaurant (which I didn't try).
The only little problem I encountered at the Rio Flat Hotel is about people at the front office who just don't speak english. Another detail, there is no ironing table in the room.
My room was rented by a client in Rio but I saw that they paid about 350 R$ per night for that room in December 2011.
I really recommend the Rio Flat Hotel for a comfortable and safe stay in Rio.
