This was my first experience in this really big hotel. Views to Nord Sea were really amainzing Room was big and confortable. There were all amenities needed. City center was near. I was on a business meeting held there and meeting room were old fashion but good enough to work. Restaurant is nice. I remember big old fashion pictures from early 20 century. The promenade was nice, windy but nice. I recomemnded this hotel for relaxing stays

Still wonderfull hotel
I adore the public places of this grande dame. The rooms are large and the bed is very large and comfy. We invited family for lunch in the bistro and the food and drinks were excellent.
But this time we had an annoying experience. When we arrived at 12.30 at the reception they already gave the key to our room (excellent but we did not go to the room because we first had a long lunch). At 4p.m I wanted to have a little siesta and to my great surprise room was obviously left in a hurry and cleaning lady taughtI was finally leaving the room -not disturb sign) and not that I was arriving. No problem she immediatly cleaned the room. Then when we finally occupied the room the toilet was not working, the telephone and the wifi were not working...We informed the reception but on a sunday...The following day the mecanic arrived and when he said they shouhd give you another room we got another one with everything working. So on the reception they were very friendly but not professional. The mecanic had to tell them. So I do not understand what if I had gone to the room at 12.30 . Who was in that room without that reception did not know? I thought this strange and hope in future ( we love this hotel) not such surprises anymore

Grand but dated!
I was here on business and the hotel served a purpose as we were a group of 70 so needed the space and meeting rooms. Location great and being able to walk out on the promenade and the sea views lovely. The rooms are huge but felt empty and overall way past their best. Not my cup of tea at all! I assume to refurb would be a huge expense and not worth doing, shame as it's a classic seaside hotel and would definitely have the potential.

This was our 1st time staying at the Thermae Palace. Its location on the main promenade in front of the beach and close to all restaurants and bar were definitely a plus. However as people living busy lives in Brussels we were looking forward to a relaxing stay: beach, dinner, bubble bath and a good night sleep - we managed do to half of it. As soon as we checked in we noticed the bathtub stopper was broken. I went to reception and kindly asked for it to be fixed or change the room as for me personally it's been a long time since I wanted to have a bubble bath before bedtime. They have asked does it have to be fixed right now but as there was still many hours ahead of bedtime I said - no worries as far as it's done before 22h - which eventually meant that it was NEVER FIXED. We ended up staying in a hotel we booked specifically due to having a bath to do not have one. All surrounding rooms next to ours were taken by families with small kids so we had a child lying on the floor a meter away from our doors and crying out loud at 7h30. Also the WiFi does't work..or it works depending on which floor and which part of hotel you are. And there are a lot of construction works all around hotel. Plus if you take the "cote mer" exit there are homeless people sleeping 20 meters away (under the hotel's archway) so be aware. Don't get me wrong - the rooms are comfortable and clean with spacious bathrooms, the hotel inside is huge and pretty, the location and views are amazing... But this is not the only hotel on the promenade and for 4 stars and 130 euro a night you expect a different kind of standards. We loved Ostend and the beach but we definitely WON'T be back to Thermae Palace hotel!

Better than expected
We stayed for a night at the Thermae Palace in March 2018. Any readers that have ever experienced stays at past-their-best hotels (usually called "The Grand") in UK seaside locations will probably know what to expect.
Public areas of Thermae Palace are great. The lobby is befitting of the Palace and the Brasserie is wonderful. It appears that the hotel corridors have been refurbished and bedrooms are of a very good size but, unfortunately, have fixtures and fittings that look like they were modelled on the University of Bangor halls of residences circa 1974. We were not intending to spend too much time in our room so we could look past the tired decor as just somewhere to sleep for the night.
One final word of note - we initially avoided the Brasserie menu based on price but the snacks/small plates menu (and drinks) are of a similar price - and of much better quality - than that of the neighbouring restaurants and cafes. Service and food quality here were exemplary and really added to the stay.
