Only for heavy sleepers!
Had high hopes for this hotel. Decided against a chain and this looked promising.
Great location - 10 minute walk to the historic centre and quite a few bars and restaurants in the immediate area but be aware quite a few are closed on Mondays
Check in - reception is not 24 hours but I arrived during regular hours and the chap at reception was very pleasant and helpful
Room - plenty of space and bed pretty comfortable. bathroom very clean though I did find an empty drinks bottle under the bed.
WiFi - seems fast and reliable
For cycling travellers there is a covered area to store the bike but it’s not particularly secure. No way to dry hand washed kit in the room - leaving the window open leads to chasing mosquitos all night!
But the big problem I found with this hotel, at least the room I was in, was the noise. Any movement in any other room or on the stairs literally rattled the furniture!
There is an alarm / sensor in the ceiling that intermittently flashes a bright white light and these combined with my mistake allowing mosquitos in lead to a sleepless night - don’t usually write hotel reviews at 0400!!

Booked online to visit Ghent for 2 nights with friends.
Pulled up on a busy street to find that reception is through two sets of doors through a garden area, down 2 sets of steps, and if you want parking it is a 10 minute walk away and costs €15 per night.
The rooms were clean but basic, Breakfast is €12 per person and again is fairly basic.
As reception is so far back from the main entrance there is a code to input to get in after 9pm and if you forget the code and need reception to "Intervene" it will cost you €20!
On our second morning we were unable to shower as there was no hot water and the reception could offer no explanation. It did start to work later and we were told "you can have a shower now"!
Cannot recommend for value or quality. The price as when you add parking and breakfast it is €115 per night

too expensive for what I got
I've stayed for one night at the Parkhotel and was disappointed. First the positive: the entrance is very good looking, the breakfast room is big (without wifi) and the selection you have for breakfast is big. Now the negative: the reception is once through the courtyard and if you have luggage I found the door hard to open. Then they gave me a room in the second floor which was only to reach via two very steep stairs without elevator. I had a lot of luggage because I'm on a four weeks trip. Although the receptionist came with me for the first half of the way she didn't offer to help me with my luggage. Especially in the morning when I left and it had rained it was very slippery on one of the stairs as they were outside. The room was ok, but wifi very slow, some of the lights not working and also for example some of the socket casings missing. I could hear my neighbours like they would share the room with me - luckily I had quite ones :)

Room extremely hot, basic and ....
Room was a mission to get there. Up a set of stairs and then outside and up another set of stairs. Room very very hot. No air con or fan and unable to open windows due to flies/mosquitos. Room very very basic. Very very small single beds. No phone. Had to try to call reception on my mobile when we got back to ask for a fan (around 10pm) but no answer. Seems there is no staff on duty after 9pm. Breakfast was okay - Continental with boiled eggs available. Good location. 10 mins walk from tram stop but 25-30 mins walk from the castle.

When you first enter the courtyard, you pass by the outdoor sitting area of the neighboring restaurant. However, while walking to the office to register, there was a sewer smell. Our room was on an upper floor…the stairs are steep and one flight of stairs at the Park Hotel is equivalent to two normal flights anywhere else. Around the stairwells is storage for stuff (maybe garbage). The room was hot, but we couldn’t open all of the windows because only some of them had screens, and there were bugs; we did get mosquitoes in the room. There was no fan in the room. Parking is a nightmare to get to. I would not return.
