A nice hotel, clean and modern. It's location was a winner for us as we liked walking past the castle every day and being able to get a variety of different photos at different times of the day. The hotel is very easy to get to, the tram number 1 will get you to the city from the train station and stops very near to the hotel. The breakfast was good albeit a bit limited, and the staff were always friendly and helpful.

Great location (in need of ren....
The hotel is located just across the road from the Gravensteen castle, making the location ideal to visit the city. The building itself is gorgeous. However, the rooms are only ok and the bathrooms are in definite need of renovation. The breakfast is alright, but nothing special.

Very nice room, perfect position in city centre, easily accessible by tram from the railway station. Friendly and helpful stuff. Good breakfast selection, although we had to wait every morning for a free table. Recommend.

A Wintery Weekend at the Grave....
Me and My partner spent a weekend in Ghent prior to Christmas.
We chose the Gravensteen Hotel due to it's very reasonable price and location in the heart of Ghent's old town.
Just a note to anyone visiting Ghent for the first time. The main train station (St Pieters) isn't close to the old town and is well over half an hour's walk away on foot. I would therefore strongly recommend you take a Tram or Taxi.
On arrival at the hotel we were checked in promptly and the staff were very helpful especially Axel who was able to solve a problem we had with the TV in our room. The room itself was of an adequate size and we had a view of the castle from our window.
We decided to get Breakfast included on our booking and it was well worth it. There was a good choice including some hot options, several different types of pastries, a number of cold meats, different breads and cereals.
My only minor gripe was that we were told Breakfast was served until 11.00 am, therefore we arrived at the breakfast hall on Saturday morning at 10.30 thinking we would have adequate time to eat. However within a few minutes of sitting down we were informed breakfast would be finishing shortly and therefore we were made to feel just a little bit rushed.
We found Ghent a little busier than we had anticipated and therefore we had problems trying to find somewhere to eat on Saturday night.
We did eventually find a Pizzeria to eat at on the waterfront but prior to finding the Pizzeria, we had spent well over an hour looking for somewhere to eat and had been turned away from a number of places due to them all being fully booked,
I would therefore strongly recommend that if you are in the City on a Saturday night you book a restaurant in advance.
