Beautiful old building right on one of the canals. Excellent as 2 mins walk from the two main squares.
Rooms full of antique furniture, which we loved. I wouldn’t book if you want a modern hotel, but if you loved old buildings this is great.
We loved it but the swimming pool was a bit disappointing. The water was cold, not the advertised 27 degrees and the sauna wasn’t working. The lift was also v small and so we didn’t use it.
Would recommend. Certainly not cheap, but nowhere in Bruges is.

Beautiful canal side hotel wit....
Hotel Die Swaene is a lovely hotel in the town center of Brugge, very close to Burg Square and all the major attractions, shops, and restaurants. My room was a deluxe double room with large French windows that open onto a great view of the canal in front. Large room with period antique furnishings and a clean, modern bathroom. The 18th Century salon is quite impressive. Pleasant and helpful staff. I would definitely recommend it, with one small caveat:
It's a full-service boutique hotel that is run like a family-owned inn or B&B. Some tourists who are used to a certain amount of anonymity and freedom when they stay at a hotel may be surprised to learn that guests are asked to leave their key at the front desk when going out, and to pick it up on the way back in. In addition, the hotel doors are locked at midnight. Presumably this is meant to cut down on noise late at night for the guests, which I appreciate. Unfortunately I discovered this after coming back late one night from a pub (they're typically open until 1AM and sometimes later) and I couldn't get in. I had to call the phone number listed on the door. Luckily I had international phone service and a charged battery. In about 5 minutes the gentleman who answered the phone came riding up on his bicycle at 1AM to let me in. He was very nice, and I felt embarrassed that I had to bother him late at night. Again, lovely hotel, centrally-located, great canal views ,and nicely furnished. I would recommend it. Just some details to be aware of.

We booked our stay on the same day of our arrival. This place is surprisingly good. Very nice and friendly staff. Large and tastefully decorated room. Great location by canal on a quiet street. Swimming pool was a huge surprise and bonus for such a small boutique hotel.

Perfect canalside location
Loved this historic canal side hotel minutes right in the centre of town. We enjoyed sitting by our open window hearing the church bells drifting in and the passing of boats on this pretty canal. Make sure you spend some time in the elegantly decorated ‘salon’ with guilt chairs, gorgeous chandelier, guilted and painted ceiling and grand piano!

Stayed for two nights for mums 80th birthday and had a brilliant time. The staff were all lovely, warm and so friendly. Always on hand with helpful suggestions, booking restaurants etc. The rooms were very old worldly but in a good way. Clean, lovely bed linen, turn down service etc. Breakfast we thought was sublime. Served in a lovely conservatory like area help yourself with eggs cooked to order. Fresh orange juice, copious tea/coffee just lovely. We sat there along time enjoying this.
This is not a bland corporate hotel chain. It is a family run business in an old building. If you want bland and corporate with every single mod con and whim catered for don’t go here. But if you want something wonderful and quirky this is the place. An example is the WIFI which does not work perfectly in the rooms. Did we care - no but if this is imperative to you this will be an annoyance. It all depends on what you are looking for.
Thank you to all- you made our stay a real delight and we came away with some lovely memories that we remain after some of us are no longer here. We would not hesitate to return.
