My husband and I decided to go away for a few days without the children and what a wonderful break we had.
The Academie hotel is situated 10 minutes from Bruges train station and 5/10 minutes from Bruges centre. It is a lovely hotel in a quiet location up a cobbled street. The staff are friendly, the hotel is spotlessly clean and the breakfast was superb.
We would definitely go back to Bruges and I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for a quiet spot away from the centre but also near enough to enjoy it.
Thank you Academie Hotel for helping to make our break away lovely!

Comfortable staying in the cen....
The hotel is located in the centre of the town. It's very close to all sightseeings. Breakfasts were wonderful and tasty: hot meals (scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, beans, boiled eggs), cold appetizers, fruits and vegetables, fresh juice, champagne, cereals, desserts. We had room on th 3th floor, inner yard view. It was quiet and rather big.

Beware of potential safety if ....
Having stayed here 2 days I have to point out my review is relatively mixed. Initially my rating was high however a lack of safe guarding and policies effectively in place I would not be able to recommend anyone stay here.
+Best buffet I think I have seen, fresh squeeze your own orange juice!
+Great looking front area, rooms are nice as is lobby.
+Great central location.
-Parking is expensive at 20 Euro from when you arrive till 11am the next day. We checked in 6pm but were exhausted so just paid, next day we found a larger under ground car park less than 100 feet from this hotel or only 9 Euro per 24 hours!
-Safety on the second night is what has really let the this place down. There was no mat in the shower and I slipped and feel badly injuring my lower leg and hitting my head on the bath as went face first into the both. My wife managed to get some ice, but was advised there was no bathmats in the entire hotel? Further to this you have to know to call "401" which is not written on the phone. "0" does not work. In addition there was no manager on when my wife asked to speak to one. I am in my early 40's and so ended up with a mild hematoma on my lower leg and a sore head, had I been 20 years older I suspect may have been in worse state, maybe even in hospital. Its a really shame that safety let this place down in my eyes. Being in the health service industry lack of safety is a really issue for me and a law suit waiting to happen for this company

New interior in an old shell
Stayed 3 nights here in a pleasant, neutrally decorated room. The exterior of the hotel is old but inside it is modern and mostly well retained. The staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast was good; when I said I could not eat gluten the waitress disappeared and returned with two delicious rolls and there were rice cakes available too.
There is an attractive courtyard in the centre of the hotel where you can sit away from the hustle and bustle of the streets. My only small criticism would be that the bathroom was a bit tired but it was clean and when I next visit Bruges I would definitely stay there again. My roon overlooked the street but the double glazing meant no noise penetrated at night and the window overlooked an early 18th century almshouse.

Lovely hotel and in a good location for all the main sightseeing places. Walkable from the train station. Friendly & helpful staff. Room comfortable and good size. Right opposite the hotel is a little shop selling antique/vintage items like jewellery, but it’s also a little cafe and bar with a good selection of Belgium beers and serves nice coffee. Would definitely recommend the hotel and would stay there again.
