Excellent!

This was our second time at this hotel, first in autumn and now in spring. Both times superb. We were part of a large tour-group staying for six nights within a 9-day Austrian Tirol tour. The hotel is modern and stylish, in a delightful quiet setting on the edge of the village. It has a unique cow theme, which sounds odd but fits the area perfectly. The hotel has excellent facilities and feels a touch more corporate than the traditional Tirolean hotels. Smart and spotlessly clean in all public areas, with super spa and pool. Spacious bedrooms, all with balcony and mountain views. I guess it was a relatively quiet time rather than the hectic ski season, but even so it cannot be easy to please a large group of 48, but they did it brilliantly. Delicious vast breakfast buffet, and wonderful dinners every evening. The staff are attentive and welcoming. The management oversee things very professionally. We had a super week. Thank you.

Beautiful and well equipped ho....

This is a relatively new hotel but still built in typical alpine style with wooden balconies for every room. It is immaculate throughout and the rooms are spacious and comfortable. The facilities are excellent with indoor and outdoor pools, saunas, etc etc and lots of games for younger children. The hotel lives up to its name "Kuh" being the German for cow. There are full size plastic cows everywhere which look so realistic from any distance. On the roof, in the car park, in the lobby, by the pool - totally crazy and we really liked it!! The quality of food was excellent, but there was an appalling breakdown between the kitchen and the service to table which resulted in really annoying delays, and several requests (eg some cucumber and pepper to go with a salad) were acknowledged but never delivered upon. On a gala dinner night of 5 courses, we gave up on any chance of the dessert after over 3,5 hours at table. Such a tragedy. We had a further service farce when some friends joined us for dinner one of whom was a local Austrian so there can be no blame on the language. Breakfast was self service and absolutely fine. The hotel made a minor concession for the appalling service at dinner when we checked out but we would be unlikely to return without cast iron guarantees of restaurant service. The hotel is a long walk to the ski gondola, but does run a shuttle service.

2nd visit, and still a huge di....

My husband and I ski most weekends in the winter and travel from Munich to Austria staying overnight. We were searching for a new hotel to add to our list. The Ku Hotel looked good, location was good, spa area looked really nice, rooms were reasonably priced, OK, its a bit quirky with the cow stuff everywhere but generally things were fine until we got to the 4 course evening meal. In short, - the restaurant was understaffed, staff were undertrained, all in all it was a disaster of a night with dinner taking 3 hours to serve. We complained via the receptionist, then to the General Manager, then to Head Office who gave us a voucher for our second stay (we were keen to give the hotel a second chance). So we were really hoping for an improvement. Again, things were fine until dinner. This time a buffet grill evening was the on the cards! No one met us at the entrance to the restaurant so we found our own table. The drinks order was then taken and we were told they had problems as there was no bartender! Already we could see other residents were agitated at the lack of staff, drinks and confusion over how we were to serve ourselves at the grill evening. BBQ's had been set up outside - nice idea, but it was cold outside, the salad was freezing and the food in the terrines was only luke warm. And to get to the food you had to leave the restaurant and walk through the lounge and then outside. We had eaten a starter, main course and about to have desert before the drinks arrived - 55 minutes. The receptionist ended up serving us! We just took our own condiments, cutlery and bottles of water from wherever we found them around the restaurant and just dumped our dirty plates on spare tables. The service was none existent and we felt really sorry for those staff that were around as they were clearly clueless, confused and overworked. Upon checkout the next morning the receptionist explained that a lot of the staff had influenza and this made them short staffed. We were not charged for our drinks. We were really hoping to give this hotel a second chance but after two disastrous visits, I'm not sure! Good points - the spa area is really nice - my husband enjoyed his steak from the grill - staff were friendly (if untrained) - we quite liked the quirky cow theme, but probably would not come back.

Superb Hotel - Perfect for a s....

Lots of good things to say about this super Hotel where we spent 3 nights on a short ski break. Very friendly staff who met every request with a smile. The half board food was exceptional (and I am very fussy!!) & one of the best breakfast spreads I have ever experienced. Even the bar prices were reasonable - beer was less than UK pub prices and a nice bottle of wine around the £20 mark. Any down sides?...well it's a bit of a trek to the village so a car is handy to get to the gondola up to the Steinplatte if you don't want to hang around for the (free) hotel shuttle. The hotel can sell you lift passes but if you are a 'Senior' you should buy your lift pass at the Gondola station if you want to save a bit of money. Also Cow theme it a bit of a Marmite thing but all in all this is a great hotel in a small Austrian village that provides all the gemütlichkeit you might possibly want.

Large family rooms, friendly s....

Location: Waidring, just outside the center, walking distance. Holiday type: Ski Holiday, Steinplatte. Need to take a car/bus to the cable car Staff: Friendly and multilingual View: Always an excellent view in Austria. Were there in february, hotel was clearly understaffed and it took forever to get the meals and took them close to 2 hours. Since the same people did the restaurant and the bar, the bar was understaffed as well (plainly said: nobody there). As if they were not prepared at all. We were tired the first day and it took forever, we ended up leaving the table not satisfied and left for bed. Immediately we received a call from the manager apologizing and we both got a spa treatment of our choice for free. This was a gread gesture from the staff. After this day everthing went more smooth and like to give thanks to both Sara(h)'s who worked hard and stayed very friendly. Meals: We had breakfast/dinner at hotel (was booked that way). Breakfast is buffet-style and also here the whole week difficulties in managing to keep up with the food and glasses. Dinner: Like and dislike. There were some good servings, but it will not suite everybody's taste and a buffet once in a while would give some break/variation. Spa: Well, my wife does *really* a lot of them, so she is quite experienced. And it is difficult to criticize if it was for free. Let me put it this way: I asked my wife "was he just doing something?" and her answer was "You thought that as well? " . Meaning if people would pay a large amount of money for it, the buildup was not really professional. I wonder how well trained he really was. Rooms: Very positive. Stayed there with 2 kids. Spacious, clean, large bathroom (oke, also here the showerhead was launched....). It was a mixed feeling stay and we had plenty hotels in the past, so enough to compare. For a 4-star Hotel they still have to learn a lot to earn the 4 stars. Nevertheless, our stay was pleasant, but the Hotel still has quite some room for improvement.
