Old fashioned grandeur, curiou....

This is the "Grand Dame" of Semmering, a wonderful big hotel on the side of the mountain. Enter and you feel like you are stepping back in time to the 1920s - large bedrooms, wide corridors, waiters with gloves. Lots of Art Deco posters on the walls advertising the hotel and the destination. It was charming. The bedroom (308) was large and spacious, so was the bathroom, with separate toilet. What was odd was the decor - the bed was on a kind of "stage" with a net curtain dividing it from the sofa bed (the latter was set up for our daughter). The same style net curtain was used as the curtain for the main window (take an eye mask if you travel in spring as it did not cut out any light at all). In addition, there was a kind of curved panelling that went around the walls, giving the room a kind of rounded effect. It was very unusual and quite a contrast to the rest of the decor which was quite standard. We opted for the set menu, which was available for €20 per person when we booked. The food was very well presented and varied on a daily basis, there was always a vegetarian option and usually a fish option; it was very good value, with 4 courses and a salad bar. The clientele seemed to be a mix of both retired people and families with children. We noted that a lot of people dressed up for dinner. There were very few people in their ski clothes at breakfast. There is a huge bar/club although we never saw anyone in it - to be fair due to our young daughter we were in the room by 8pm. There is a ski and boot room - I was thrilled to see some boot warmers, but then realised there were only 2 boot warmers for the whole hotel! But the bedrooms were well heated and the bathroom floor had underfloor heating, so we could dry our ski boots in there. It is not walking distance to the ski lifts, but there is a free shuttle to take you down to the village. It was a lovely place to stay overall, I would go back, as despite it being very warm in February (11C), the snow still held on the main ski runs, so when it is cold and snowy, it must be fantastic. Journey time from Vienna airport was less than one hour.

Average - not very reliable se....

An old hotel, clean rooms, furniture - necessary to renovate. The swimming pool was under reconstruction, but despite this fact, the hotel didn`t offer any reduced price. Food - ok, a wide range of foodstuff in the morning, dinners - ok, but anything special. We were disappointed by the fact that the hotel proclaims skiing just to the doorstep, but it is a false information. You need to walk approximately 15 minutes downhill along the road (in your ski boots) to get to the cable lifts or to use your own car. They offer their own ski bus, but you can`t rely on it. We were waiting more than an hour for it and despite the information on the hotel board at the reception (the exact timetable), the driver let us be on our own. After returning to the hotel we complained, but they didn`t consider to be necessary to apologize. In our opinion, such a 4* hotel should regard and treat their clients differently and they should show more interest to fullfil what is promised and paid for. Because of that - we do not recommend this hotel to anybody.

Decent Old Hotel for short Sta....

Panhans is an old hotel with great History in Semmering , 5 min by car from the Skiing and Cable Car , 5 min from Train Station The Hotel Lobby and Entrance and Nicely Decorated , the Front Desk staff were a great help and they upgraded my Reservation with no Extra Cost . The Room was the Panaromic Room , it was located in the connected Building with long way to walk and using 2 elevators to get to the room , the view was not the best . Room itself was okay , Furniture is a bit old but still acceptable . WiFi Signal was weak in the room . Resturant was Decent with Good Meals in Breakfast and Dinner . I Believe it is the best hotel in the Region

Good tip for short or longer s....

Very interesting hotel, offers atmosphere of 'classical' hotel from 20th century. Huge, so you would see there are bits and pieces that could be upgraded, but overall very nice stay. Lovely environment, wonderful view, very convenient for skiing (close to slopes) and for hiking. Close to railway, so also for those without a car. Great spa resort. Big room with terrace (wing "C"). Good fit for bigg groups as well as for individuals.

Skiing

We made a booking just before x mas for 2 nights and due to a filling error the system only charged us 9€! We informed the hotel and they offered us a 50% discount which was acceptable and nice of them. Not sure if this was the reason of the quality of room they gave us? Apparently the rooms are renovated -ours was not. The room size was great , the balcony nice but the bathroom not upgraded and furniture old. The breakfast buffet not special and the food average to not tasty. The staff is friendly and the location great for skiing. The hotel also offered a free shuttle service. During our stay the pool area was under construction. The sauna was available but unfortunately the hotel has no ' dress' rules how to use the sauna . It is not everyone's taste sitting with baked strangers in one room. All in all our stay was average -and we were glad we did not pay the full price as that would definitely not justify what the hotel has to offer.
