Very good, authentic Austrian ....

We have just stayed here for a 9 night skiing holiday. We found it excellent but if you do not speak any German, then you will struggle or indeed have great fun! My partner is fluent, so we were fine. Our room was very clean and seemed well insulated sound wise as the people directly below had a regularly, crying baby which we hardly heard. We were on half board. Breakfast was a large buffet: cereals, fruit salad, yoghurts, scrambled egg, boil your own egg, selection of cold meats and cheese, rolls, bread, preserves, cake, fruit juice. Dinner: 3 courses. Always a soup and these are mostly very Austrian, clear soups with noddles, pancake, dumpling, egg, little round crouton like things in them. I may not be describing well, but they tasted excellent. Examples of main courses are chicken breast stuffed with spinach and cheese, venison, trout, beef, schnitzel in mushroom sauce, weiner schnitzel, vension or beef goulash. Examples of dessert: cheesecake, apfelstrudel, ice cream, cherry cake, citrus mousse. There was always 2 choices for dinner main course but they were always meat. If you are vegetarian, then I would advise mentioning this before booking to ensure they can cater for you. In the morning the ski bus stops at the end of the drive, so only 100m away (there is a 9am, 9.20 and 9,50). It is possible to ski back from Hochwurzon on skipath 43 but only if there is enough snow in the lower valley, if not a ski bus can be taken. You can walk down a river pathway to Schladming, it takes about 30 to 40 minutes. The hotel has a room for drying/heating ski boots and storing your skis. In summer the hotel caters for walkers and also horse riding as they have an ample herd of Icelandic and Haflinger ponies. There is wifi available in the bar/reception area and I would think some of the 1st floor rooms may pick the signal up too as it came and went weakly in our 2nd floor room. We would highly recommend the Seiterhof for those wanting a typically Austrian holiday. We also felt it was excellent value. Their ski holiday prices include your lift ticket, with a weeks holiday at 600 to 660 euros including a ski pass of 218 euros. So our holiday this year was cheaper than our package with a tour operator last year to Schladming (which was horrendous re airport, flights, transfers and a very run down hotel) and we had BA flights, good transfers and excellent accommodation. DIY much better.

Always a lovely stay at the Se....

We have stayed at the Seiterhof on three occasions now, all ski holidays. We stay in the apartments with family, they are well equipped and spotless. Despite staying in the apartment we have half board which is very good, breakfasts are plentiful and evening meal excellent, the veal in gorgonzola sauce is particularly good. One word of warning, the owners dont speak any English but their daughter Claudia is fluent. The lack of English only adds to the fun for us. We would return again anytime!
