Good for family
We had to cancel a hotel near this one because was not as they told us. We walked in to this hotel and receive a great welcome.
Price was a bit high but for that period and location this is avarange.
ROOM: good a bit small and organized a bit strange but good.
FOOD: great, very large menu for breakfast
OVERALL: clean, new and a lot of natural light what is very nice when you are in such a area where all around there is snow.
My recommendation to families.

Room was good, breakfast ok but serving every day the same does go a bit over the top. Location next to the slope is very good.
The owners however did not give us a feeling of being welcome at the hotel. Friendliness can and must be very much improved, especially when compared to other hotels in the area. When checking out we just got a cold 'byw', basically the type of feeling in terms of 'thank god they left'. We could have gotten better service for the price we paid.
It's a pity for this hotel as we will not be coming back again.

Oh heck Sonneck why a total la....
There is no doubt that the Sonneck is well positioned. It is well appointed and the facilities are fine, the ski room is good so to is the sauna etc. The rooms are very clean & the food is on the whole good. Unfortunately the owners & the staff make no effort to make you feel welcome, indeed it would be easy to say they are not interested in engaging with tourists, which I have to say is a new experience for me after 35 years of visiting Austria in both the summer & the winter. Three examples (there are more) from our groups recent visit demonstrate this. On arriving in the bar area after an apres ski drink - a bright orange piece of paper was held up which stated " latest dinner start time 7.15 please" no previous communication no investigation whether this suited our group of 40 who basically filled the hotel! The second incident occurred at the dinner table when my friend asked for something in English only to be told by the waiter that the British were ignorant as they could not speak any other languages. The final example came on our last morning when the owner walked along each corridor about 9.00 in the morning blowing a horn or a vuvosayla to ensure that the group realised they wanted us out of the rooms in time for another group who were arriving that morning, an arrangement I for one was not aware of. Other people experienced similar - even a refusal to buy a drink as it was 1 minute past 12, again no communication about the staffs intentions were made known prior to this. Although our group enjoyed the week & on our last night did get a late drink, over all the experience could have been so much better with a few smiles & a little of the interaction / Gemütlichkeit that Austria is so rightly famed for.

Comfortable rooms, clean and plenty of hot water. Ideal base for skiing or walking. Breakfast is the usual fare and fine, We stayed half board and the evening meals were poor with the exception of one carvery style buffet which was excellent, unfortunately this only reinforced the poor quality of other meals. Evening meal had to be taken before 7.15, too early for most.Service is charmless. The sauna area is good with two saunas and a rest area. The ski locker works well.
As the snow recedes in late season there is a walk across fields to the snow. Rohrmoos is a couple of miles up the mountain out of the town of Schladming, so unless you have a car you have to be happy with the few facilities in Rohrmoos. There is a general store and a bus service.
