Perfect location for relaxing ....
We enjoyed the comfort of Sails for 5 days. Our very clean one bedroom apartment offering all that we needed for our base (nicely presented continental breakfast, fully stocked kitchen, comfy bed) & the owners providing us with suggestions for daily activities...morning & evening walks along the nearby beach & hidden gem of the Panatana Rivulet, a short drive to the charming town of Latrobe, stopping at Ghost Rock Winery essential, another short drive to Narawntapu National Park to see a rich diversity of plants, wildlife & stunning views. We are already planning next visit.

Easy Tassie Starting Point
Reasonably close to the Devonport ferry terminal, Sails gave us all we wanted as a starting point for our drive round Tasmania.
It was clean and well provisioned including some homemade biscuits and the hosts were great.

We seldom use this type of accommodation but as we were visiting a relative we had no other option. What a wonderfull surprise it was to meet with the new owners Kevin and Amanda and be shown to a very clean room with everything in you could want.
Comfortable bed and a continental breakfast in the kitchen. Good TV and more than adequate ensuite.
If you are ever in the area it is the only place to stay.

If you want clean, this is not....
Since our Tasmania holiday was nearing it's end we realised that it was a public holiday long weekend coming up so we had better book accommodation for the last two nights and didn't want to stay too far away from the Devonport wharf to get the boat back to the mainland.
For all the while we stayed in Tasmania we didn't book anywhere. Each night we would look at our maps and decide where we were going next. Before our holiday, I had done a lot of research for accommodation all over the state because we had no fixed itinerary. When we travel we never expect five star accommodation, all we expect is clean and tidy without an exorbitant price.
Sails on Port Sorell was in my list of places to stay and had been given good ratings and reports.
On our travels, we always like to stay in self catering, or at least somewhere that has a microwave or a toaster for breakfast. Years ago I accompanied my husband on a working trip and while I was in the room the cleaning staff asked if they could make up up the room. Their idea of washing the plates was a quick rinse under the cold water tap in the bathroom. Ever since then when I travel I always prewash what I think we will use in the kitchen (that's just my little ocd).
At Sails, the cleanliness in the kitchen was non existent. A frying pan spatula had old cooked food and grease residue on it. The kitchen scissors had the same, complete with what looked like hair also. Yuk! All the plates, cutlery, pots and pans were grimy.
A lot of places in Tasmania provided kitchen needs such as sauces, salt and pepper, aluminum foil, plastic wrap, etc. What I found in this kitchen cupboard was an empty foil packet, sauce bottles that had old congealed sauce that had dribbled down the side of the bottle and a wide open half a packed of rice.
It didn't end there. The kitchen chair cushions were in a disgusting state with stains all over them and the place mats still had food debris stuck to them. The kitchen floor also had black scuff stains all over it.
In the very dated bathroom cupboard there was a small hotel size shampoo bottle three quarters empty and a body wash container completely empty. In the toilet, sanitary bags were provided but these were so old there were stains on them.
There were signs everywhere. In the bedroom there was a sign on the side table not to use the pillows on the bed because they were for display only and to use the pillows in the wardrobe. We got these out but found they were very lumpy so we used the display pillows anyway.
In the lounge room, which I will admit was quite neat and tidy there was a sign not to use the heating unnecessarily. If you are on holidays in winter, as we were, you use the heating when you want, to keep warm, after all it was included in our accommodation price.
Lastly, the best sign in the place was the one on the kitchen wall that prattled on about how hard there cleaning staff work that if the place wasn't left in the 'same clean condition' that we found it, a $60 extra fee would be charged for extra cleaning.
They probably should have paid me for the extra cleaning that I did in the kitchen, because it was certainly left in a cleaner state than before we arrived.

Beautifully appointed apartmen....
We stayed for one night after arriving in Tassie and were delighted with the apartment and the hosts, who could not have been more welcoming. The one bedroom apartment we had was very clean and comfortable, and came with all the crockery and cutlery needed, including a range of wine glasses, a washing machine, wash basket and pegs and a little courtyard. It is situated a short walk from the beach. Only downside was taht there was nowhere to eat in easy walking distance and we were too lazy to take the car out. However, there was a continental breakfast provided, which was more than adequate to keep us fed. Would definitely return.
