Very, very much a retreat!

We stayed there in May and it was very cold. Even the $100 a night places we have stayed in had electric blankets, but not this place! We were very disappointed we weren't told about the 8km dirt road to travel on to get there, as it took a lot longer to start our explorations of the area, back on the main roads. There was also a filthy, dirty used ashtray left in our room from a previous guest. Terrible! And there was no wi-fi or phone access. Wish I had known that too so I could organise work before I arrived there. We were up in the top cabins so had to drive the car to breakfast at reception as it was a little too far to walk up and down a hill in the cold. The staff were very nice and friendly, and breakfast was fantastic. But I would never go there again.

Lovely Wilderness Retreat

Tasvacations booked us into the Lemonthyme as a stopping point near Cradle mountain on our journey from Launceston to Strahan. We have been to other wilderness retreats before and were looking forward to a peaceful night in the bush. We were not disappointed and it was a lovely experience in a beautiful setting. We loved the log cabin with a verandah, gas heater, comfortable bed, comfortable lounge setting and spacious bathroom. The weather turned a bit wet and windy the night we were there in early May but we were very snug inside. The staff were lovely and friendly and the main lodge was comfortable to have a few drinks around the fire. The history of the retreat is interesting and based on one man's vision 30 years ago to build the bush resort. The 8km winding dirt road drive in and out may be a bit daunting for some and could be a turnoff but otherwise it was a lovely place to spend a night away.

A superb wilderness retreat

I was competing at the Australian Masters Rowing Championships at Lake Barrington with my team and around 20 of us booked in to Lemonthyme Wilderness Retreat, most of us for just under a week. The accommodation was very comfortable, the rooms had fabulous heaters (very useful for drying off wet rowing gear), and were spacious and quiet with superb views of the bush. The meals were sensational and just the job for a bunch of hungry rowers after a hard day's racing. It was marvellous to comeback in the evening and relax in the warm dining room/bar area and enjoy our meals without having to worry about going out somewhere. The surrounding walks were beautiful, and access to other scenic highlights of the surrounding area was easy. All the staff without exception were incredibly friendly and obliging and no request was too much trouble. I noticed some people in reviews have complained about the length of the gravel road drive into the Retreat. In fact we looked forward to it every time, taking time to absorb the serenity of the bush off the main road and seeing the animals coming out at dusk. It was a very well maintained road and we had no trouble at all with it. My wife and I could not recommend this retreat more highly and we intend to come back.

Perfect location for a retreat

This was a last minute booking since we hadn't planned were to sleep after our trekking in Cradle Mountain, and what an amazing surprise! After driving some km through the forest, we got to this cozy hotel surrounded by nature. We slept in a big cabin with a double bed and a single bed. The room and bathroom were clean, and the balcony with views to the forest was a plus. During our dinner at the restaurant in the hotel, one member of the staff invited us to see how she feeds the wild animals, such as possums. Apparently, they come every night to get leftovers from the restaurant. Another plus were the ladies in reception (Australian and Asian), they were very nice! So to sum up, if you are a nature lover, this is the best place for a retreat!

Stuck in the Middle of Nowhere

We were doing a 9 day self-drive trip organised through our travel agent Helloworld in Tauranga. This was a trip I had dreamed my whole life of doing - both my maternal grandparents were born in Tasmania. The accommodation we were supposed to be in at Cradle mountain was full on the dates we were travelling, so we were booked into LemonThyme - having never been before to Tasmania we were relying on GO TRAVEL (through Helloworld) to have some idea where this accommodation was located. They obviously didn't. The whole point of going to this area was to visit Cradle Mountain - 44 Kms away if you please and 8 kms on a very windy gravel road. LemonThyme Wilderness Retreat is just that - a retreat suitable for a weekend get-away. You are stuck there - nowhere else to eat. What really got my goat was after going on a 2 hour walk near the Retreat I went to reception to inquire about lunch. I was told that I should have booked in for lunch the day before - WHAT!!! The meals were all expensive and quite large. They were okay, but not particularly stand out. The staff were overall friendly and our unit was large and very spacious with a spa bath which was very nice. We took our own breakfast stuff so didn't use the restaurant for breakfast (and lunch of course not having booked in the day before!). Our unit was also very clean and the bed was extremely comfortable. A wonderful place for a weekend break but in our opinion not a good place to stay if you want to visit Cradle Mountain - wonderful National Park and well worth visiting.
