Nice rooms, decent staff howev....

Normally I would stay at the Perisher Manor, however it was closed so I booked here. The convenience of being able to drive up to the hotel instead of cramming yourself into the ski tube was great. The checkin staffer seemed to be overwhelmed and put us into the wrong room (we had booked a mountain view but were treated with a nice carpark view) so we went back downstairs, she apologised, gave us our proper room and a free dinner meal. The lobby and 'communal rest area' could use some updating and there is no designated area to take off your ski boots. If you have the choice, stay at the Perisher Manor.

Clean, warm, modern facilities....

Views of the mountains, family restaurant and relaxed bistro for dinner, parking right outside, great service from staff. As a vegan, I was uncertain of what food would be available as I didn't want to travel into town each day for dinner. Half of the night I was here, the restaurant on site had a beautiful vegan meal on the menu, and the other two nights, staff said the chef was able to mix and match parts of the menu to put together a meal. For breakfast, I just brought my own food and the staff heated it up in the microwave with no complaints at all. It would have been nice to have porridge (oatmeal) available for breakfast, but at least they were willing to heat my sachet up. Note: teens cannot eat in the bistro (pizza, steaks, chips, salads) without mum or dad being right there with them. This was a real pain in the neck when I wanted to eat in the restaurant for a relaxed sit-down meal without them, and leave the kids to their pizza next door - NOT ALLOWED! It was humiliating for them wanting to buy a Coke and me having to order it at the bar and hand over their money for them.

Couldn't Ask For A Better Ski ....

Friendly down-to-earth service that made us feel right at home. This has been a good ski season, and even in late September, the whole area was still covered in snow. Great place for the young ones to learn how to ski--although this time of the year, the ski school was closed. We were less than five minutes from the ski area, so dealing with toddler logistics was relatively easy. The studio apartment we stayed in was cosy, and for the most part, quiet. It had all the basic necessities, though the bathroom was a bit cramped, and had 70's retro-looking brown tiles. Food was better than passable, and the bar area had a nice relaxed vibe. It became a ritual for us to finish skiing in the afternoon, grab a drink and snack, spend quality time as a family, and head over to the dinning room for dinner in the evening. All in all, a pretty perfect trip... and we found this place by sheer chance.

Great location, good for young....

We have been staying at Smiggins for 10 years. The location is amazing - you can't fault this and the staff are generally so friendly. The mountain view rooms are the best with the view of the mountains. The parking is also great. We have noticed that as our children are getting older (11 and 14), it doesn't cater for them. At night, there is not much for them to do and the meals are not sufficient. While dinner is included, the portions are inadequate for older children, a tiny spoonful of pasta may be fine for a 5 year old but not for 11 and 14 year olds. When we asked for a bigger serving, we were told it would cost $25 extra per child. We ended up buying additional meals for them (pizzas from the bar at $20 each). Breakfast is the same, why not have self serve buffet breakfast instead of small portions being served. I have noticed another review on this site about similar concerns. The dinners for adults have also gotten smaller over the years and there are limited options for Gluten Free (aside from the food station at breakfast which is a welcome addition but also limited). In summary, we have loved Smiggins but may need to look for something else now our kids are older which is disappointing as they love the runs on this mountain.

Exceeded all expectations

My family of 5 (2 adults and 3 kids aged 2, 9, 11) have just returned from our first family snow trip. I haven't been to the snow for 20 years and was expecting the holiday to be a bit hectic. Thanks to Smiggins Hotel, all went smoothly and it was an enjoyable trip for all. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly and the whole hotel is very well run. Our chalet apartment was VERY spacious and quiet. The meals (especially dinners) were amazing. Having a locker in the hotel area was extremely useful. I honestly can't fault it. Highly recommend.
