poor personal relations skills....

We stayed 2 nights with other family member and small children. The website states 'no children' but the owner accepted our booking. On the second night we were asked to stay upstairs in the communal lounge area so that two other guests with no children could have access to the open fireplace in the lounge downstairs. We were not happy with this arrangement but obliged. At 19.30 hours (early evening), the male guest emerged suddenly from his bedroom and shouted at us in a rude and intimidating manner for making too much noise and disturbing him. (We were unaware that he and his wife were even in the bedroom as it was such an early hour and had assumed they were out to dinner or in the lounge downstairs.) We were stunned, angry and intimidated by his behavior and my 10 year old grand daughter burst into tears asking 'will he hurt us'. The male guest complained to the owner who then appeared to go to all lengths to placate the male guest. She then tried to avoid speaking to us about the incident and only did so at our insistence. We tried to tell her our side of the story but she argued with all our explanations and inferred that it was all our fault. This is not what one would expect of a person who in her position should have some personal relationship skills. I think this made us even more angry and upset than the original incident as we were offered no apology and she obviously had sided with the aggressive guest..The above incident may sound minor but was actually extremely upsetting and quite ruined our evening. We were paying guests as was the other guest. The website does say "no children' so the owner should never have let us stay if it was going to leave us in this vulnerable position. We even locked our bedroom door that night for fear of what the other guest next to our bedroom might be capable of!

be warned, very disapppointing....

We stayed at Ginninderry homestead for 2 nights for a family getaway which included small children. Although advertised as no children we were told (by the owner) we could bring children as the other guests had been informed and approval gained . We were also told there would be communal areas we could use. On arrival my sister in law was told we could not use the main lounge but would have to stay in the communal guest area upstairs outside the bedrooms due to the children. Although not told this when we booked we accepted this. On the 2nd night we were verbally abused by a male guest for allowing the kids to make a noise, at 1930hr. We had not been made aware that this guest was in the bedroom at this time and had supposed they were out or in the downstairs lounge, which had been set aside for them. The owner spent around 20mins with this guest after the incident, apparently placating him, but only spoke to us when we insisted, and then complained that she was too busy to talk. When I mentioned that she had said we could use the communal areas she responded that if we were going to talk she would have thought we would have sat in our rooms! My 10 yr old niece was frightened of this guest and asked us if he would hurt her, she was in tears. We all felt intimidated and uncomfortable but when I said this to the owner she did not appear to understand this and attempted to put the blame on us. We were given no apologies or explanations. We locked our door that night as we did not know this man and were worried by his uncontrolled anger. Our main concern was that this whole incident was so badly managed by the manager and our concerns were not taken seriously. Be warned if you don't want children they may be there and if you do bring children you may be abused by other unaware guests. There were also issues with the amenities, we found the beds hard and uncomfortable, there were not enough places set for us to all have breakfast together, on the 2nd day the breakfast supplies had not been properly replenished and there were no glasses for the orange juice. The open fire was not well maintained by the owner nor was there any fire wood for guest to use to maintain the fire. Also be warned the track leading to the homestead is more suitable for 4 wheel drives as it is not properly maintained and is full of pot holes and gullies. Overall a very disappointing end to a getaway and although I am angry at the rude guest I realise that if the owner had managed things properly this situation need not have occurred. I do not recommend this place to anybody when there are so many better well managed places in which to stay

Beautiful location, stunning v....

Myself, My Maid of Honour & my family stayed here the night before my wedding on November 4th 2016. The location is stunning hence why I chose to get married here. Rooms are beautiful & Sue was an amazing host. Breakfast was lovely to walk downstairs too & plenty to eat. The gardens are amazing & green. Love the sound of the creek in the background. A very relaxing atmosphere. Nothing was a problem at all. Definitely recommend.

A beautiful House & property o....

We attended a wedding and stayed overnight at the Homestead which is close to Canberra but set in a peaceful and beautiful valley which seemed hundreds of kilometres from city life. There is plenty of parking and once you turn the engine off the engine you are absorbed by the bush surroundings. The homestead was tastefully built in 2001 by Joe Sciberras but you would think it was an authentic Australian historical home - definitely built with passion! Our room was well set out, up a narrow staircase and just off the central common room with tea & coffee making facilities available to guests. There was a lovely continental breakfast set out in the dining room but we all relaxed on the deck surrounding the homestead listening to the birds. The wedding was magnificent, held in the function centre away from the homestead.

Our Daughter's Wedding Weekend

We had use of the entire property at Ginninderry for our daughter's wedding, in mid-November 2016. We could not have had a more perfect weekend. Sue was so welcoming and hospitable at the Homestead and Cottage, and Amelia and her team, led by Olivia, were absolute champions with everything associated with the wedding. The verandah of the homestead was perfect for the bring-in meal we shared with the bridal party after the rehearsal on the Friday night. The reception hall was beautifully laid out, ready for "dressing" by the time we arrived on Friay, with final touches by the florist and a few others on Saturday morning. The garden was glorious for the wedding ceremony on Saturday afternoon, and we could not have been happier with the food, the service, or anything associated with the wedding reception. During the reception, our MC was so impressed with Olivia and the team (he has 30+ years of experience in public venues with business functions), that he asked us all to give them a round of applause, which we happily did. He told us later that he's never done that before, ever. The bride and her maids stayed in the Homestead on Friday night, and cruised over to the Cottage on Saturday morning after a lovely breakfast, for a relaxed preparation time with hair and makeup. At short notice, large umbrellas were set up during the warm afternoon for shelter of infirm guests. Anything we weren't sure about, we checked and easily worked out solutions. We brought in lunch for the bride's crew to the Cottage, and the Groom's crew to the Homestead, and the whole process was far easier and calmer than ANY wedding we've ever been associated with in times past. When the reception was over, the bridesmaids headed back to the homestead to sleep, and we (the bride's parents) headed over to the Cottage, where we sat in the Courtyard with some friends while the fellas polished off an extra bottle of wine. A perfect end to a perfect day, from our perspective. We stayed an extra night in the Cottage, while the bridesmaids departed before lunch on the Sunday. Everyone said how well they slept, including us. We hadn't created much washing up in the Cottage, so Sue told us to leave it and she'd put it through the dishwasher. For us, that was just the perfect parting gift - not to have to worry about linen or cleaning! Throughout the wedding, we had SO many guests say to us that they must come to Ginninderry for a week, or for a special function of their own. Many Canberrans had not even known the place existed, and were astounded at it's beauty, peacefulness, and wonderful atmosphere. We could not recommend Ginninderry Homestead, Cottage or Events more highly. Perfect, perfect, perfect.
