Just as I needed it!
My trip was a boys weekend away, so perfect location for the football and the city. Just missed the mark on service and cleanliness. On arrival there also could have been some direction regarding the facilities, but as the title line mentions on this trip it was all I needed!

Great hostel in town!
I went with my partner and got a private room which was perfect and had awesome views at the city and a super comfy ensuite bathroom.
The common areas of the hostel are great! There is a lovely rooftop pool with great views and a terrace. The kitchen is huge so we always found a spot to cook and it is always clean!
There’s games, tv, and computer rooms which were pretty quite as well.
Free wifi only works in reception area and the cafe but you can purchase premium wifi, we didn’t need it but you have the option at least.
The laundry is big and great, with several coin washing machines and dryers there are also irons and a spot to hang your clothes!
There’s activities everyday, such as free BBQ, great deals at the café... and reception can help booking tours and activities.
A great hostel, with good vives and super clean in a very convenient location’ we walked everywhere! The main station, Roma Street, is 3 min walk.

Great hostel experience
The City YHA was my first stop in Australia. It is a spacious & friendly place, conveniently located and offers great facilities like the rooftop kitchen and terrace. It's easy to idle a day away by the pool if you don't feel like exploring the city.

Great except for noise from co....
Comfortable beds, big lockers in dorms, comfy puffy pillows. Kitchen is nice and big with plenty of storage space in fridges and shelves. Games room and nice deck outside to eat and relax on. Unfortunately the games were not free, it would be a huge bonus if they were!
Even better if:
There was a rule of no noise past a certain hour. I was on the fourth floor directly below the common area and music was blaring until almost 1am! Luckily I'm not too bothered by this but anyone who sleeps very lightly would find it incredibly difficult to sleep if you're put on the fourth floor. It was the hostel's music too, which I was surprised at.
Overall, would stay here again. Very close to Greyhound bus stop and city.
