Basic with a great location
Top notch location right on the plaza. Pleasant staff. Rooms are basic but clean. Wifi was good, but intermittent. Includes cable tv. Breakfast is standard, but served in a sunny dining room. Definitely dated, but great value.

Yes it's dated but it serves i....
Excellent location in the centre of town and if you have a room on one of the higher floors then you get a great view too. Decor is dated but the beds are comfy and there is hot water and a tv. Wifi only really works on the ground floor. Breakfast is basic. High rate used for converting usd to pesos if you have booked with booking.com but this hasn't been unusual during our trip in Argentina.

Worst hotel ever!
Honestly, this hotel should be closed... It is very old, not clean at all and very expensive!!
We stayed in this hotel during Easter because all other hotels were fully booked. Would never stay again!

Central hotel in convenient lo....
Somewhat dated. The rooms seem to have been decorated in a colour scheme more suited to a prison or other institution. Breakfast is a little sparse. Staff are friendly and helpful.

Great location but a very date....
Lonely Planet describes this Posadas hotel as having the largest sign in town, and I got to say it did have a big sign. The nice part of this sign though was not its size, but the fact that it, and the hotel, was in an excellent location just off the main Plaza. From the hotel you could walk to great restaurants, lots of shops, and of course enjoy the plaza.
Posadas itself is not a tourist destination, most people just pass through here on the way to Paraguay or to the Jesuit Missions. For us it was our entry point into Argentina from Paraguay so we stayed two nights so we would have time to buy our bus ticket to the Iguazu Falls.
For just a short stay we were happy enough with Posadas and with this hotel. City Hotel is nothing special... at least not any more - you could tell once upon a time it was grand but it is now pretty dated.
Still, our room was large with a double (matrimonial) & single bed, 2 nightstands, a wardrobe, and a desk w/chair. There was also a TV with lots of English language stations. The air conditioner worked great and there was loads of hot water.
The room even had a balcony with a view of the plaza. Nice. Plus it was all very clean and the hotel provided towels. There was also a functioning lift which was handy as I had a hurt ankle.
That said, everything was dated and old fashioned. Even the blankets & towels were a bit worn out. A face lift is in order, but if they did that, then they would probably raise their rates. The current price was 145,000 Argentinian Pesos (or US$ 38). It was no bargain, but Posadas does not have much choise in the budget category since it is not a regular backpacker destination.
The price does include breakfast (coffee & media lunas) and free use of a typewriter (not joking their is one in the lobby for guests.) There is also free wifi but only in the lobby.
Our room was quiet and comfortable and we slept very well plus it was clean - so no complaints. We did not see any of the competition so perhaps there is a cheaper place that would be just as nice. But if we returned to Posadas, we would not pay a dime more than this place as more money really would not get you more functional.
