Should shut this place down

I just returned from a short 3 day trip to Iguazu in mid July 2015. The Hotel was selected through expedia based on descriptions of simple amenities and good location. Though our expectations were restrained and limited, this hotel failed dismally in even our minimal requirements. It would be hard to label this a 'motel' let alone a hotel. My familys' experience: We found the front desk to struggle with customer service and basic communication with english speaking customers. Considering Iguazu is a major tourist draw, this is a serious weakness. The hotel is surrounded by old, cheap quality furniture, in the foyer, bedrooms, cafeteria. Quite unappealing image wise. The rooms have some of the worst beds we have slept in. These are old, lumpy, and uncomfortable. All of these need to be replaced. The bathroom is ensuite, with shower. The toilet seats are the cheapest thin plastic one could imagine finding. There is NO, NO, NO exhaust in the bathroom. So if a family of 3-4 stays in the room, there is no escape from the bathroom odours. Compound this with no means for dampness to escape from the shower and sink, and the stay is miserable. There is no housekeeping service for the rooms. During our 3 nights stay, our beds were not made, towels not removed, bathroom not cleaned, and floor not swept once. The linen and pillows carry a stale damp and musty odour. The wifi and internet service is patchy, and we managed to connect on wifi one evening out of three. The breakfast is poor in quality. The bread is half cooked, and fruits appeared stale and old even in the morning. The dinner had plenty of vegetables which is good, but even this did not look fresh. Overall, the hotel needs a major revision in management. At every turn the appearance was of an intent to save money, and this reflected in poor quality of staff, food, service and rooms. Its' a shame, as the location of this euphemism is good, and on a major road.

Awful Hotel - stay away if at ....

Stayed here on part of our honeymoon, it was booked through a travel agency in Buenos Aires. From the outside it looked quite nice but inside was a different story. The staff on Reception had very little English and they were not very helpful, they were quite rude in fact. When we got there we had travelled quite a bit and went to bed early. The noise that night was unbearable. There were a group of teenagers staying at the hotel with music blaring in all rooms, running up and down the corridors, we were over a games room and the noise down there was also unbelievable. We had to complain twice to the staff in order to have our room changed. The hotel echoes all noises, from downstairs the noise travels up and is very difficult to sleep. There are minimal staff in the hotel, there is not really a bar there either. The breakfast is awful selection and usually has flies on all the food. I would not recommend this hotel to anybody. The room is very old and usually has some sort of insects roaming around is not very clean at all. Stay away if at all possible....

Comfortable and Helpful

Although the staff did not speak good English we found them very helpful. Our luggage was delayed but reception gave us some sun-tan cream and insect repellant to put on before we ventured out to the falls. The Manager also logged in and printed off our boarding passes for the flight home. Rooms large and clean. Buffet dinner though not exceptional on quality was very good value for money.

Spacious, clean, great great l....

Great location for Falls explorers, 5 min drive to the gates! Rooms were lovely and big with great balcony's which got the sun straight into the room. Modern TV's with USB ports. Never ventured to the pool but nice to have after a sticky day in the heat. Cheap bar and the buffet dinner wasn't bad but way over priced for what it was at 95 peso!

A bit hit and miss!

Having just stayed at an outstanding hotel in Rio Cuarto, it was always going to be hard to compete. Hotel Carmen does have it's good points. It's closer to the falls than the hotels in town and the local bus stops right outside. It is only a short walk to GuiraOga, an amazing animal rescue centre and not too far from the airport. The gardens and pools are lovely, as is the outside bar area and the furniture throughout the main areas of the hotel, looks like it has all been hand carved, and is quite spectacular. However my room wasn't very nice at all. It was quite large but the furniture was very tired and quite tatty. My bed had some metal springs poking through the sides and certainly wasn't the most comfortable bed I've ever slept on. However, all of that would have been forgiven, if I had had a nice powerful shower. It costs nothing to replace a shower head that has had it's day - and this one was well past it's sell by date. The water trickled out in some places and streamed out at right angles in others - neither of which is particularly helpful if you need to wash your hair. Other issues were.... - They forgot to clean my room one day. - Having spent 3 weeks travelling around Argentina where no- one even considers going out for dinner until at least 10.00pm, it was a bit of a shock to arrive for dinner at 9.45 and be told that the restaurant closed at 9.30. Yes of course I should have asked, but a sign or notice or info pack in the room would be a good idea. - This must be one of the only hotels on the planet that closes its bar at 11.00pm and then refuses to serve any more drinks - even to residents. Some of the bar and restaurant staff were lovely - very helpful and polite - even while they were refusing me dinner and drinks. However I didn't really feel the same way abut the reception staff. No smiles, no warm welcome and no useful information e.g. The dining room closes at 9.30!!!! The hotel info on booking.com said there was a tours desk - well they may have had one at some point but they certainly don't have one now. Fortunately, the waterfalls at Iguazu are probably the most amazing and spectacular sights, I've ever seen, which more then compensated for this rather mediocre hotel. Another reviewer said - you get what you pay for, but this was the most expensive of the 3, I stayed in, whilst in Argentina and wasn't even in the same ball park as the other 2.
