This is a building site inside....
I've never given a one star review on Trip Adviser but I can't deny that this hotel is, currently, terrible.
One thing everyone can agree with is that it is in need of renovation - and the Sheraton should never have allowed it to get into this state.
It's also positive that Melia (a hotel chain I use and am a gold card member of) have taken it over. In 12 months it will be stunning.
But, there is absolutely no way they should have kept the place open whilst doing such a huge renovation.
It's not just the outside, the lobby area we breakfasted in on the first day was being demolished on the second. There are very few guests staying there but plenty of workmen in hard hats wandering around inside.
Workman are on site 8-6pm and for lots of that time people will be wandering around the stunning Falls. But one of the reasons the location is key is that it should allow you time to go to and from the hotel during the day and actually it's so noisy and dirty that it's a place to avoid at all costs.
For some reason we were placed in a room directly adjacent to where workmen were working next door. We were moved after the business colleagues who booked us this trip as a treat contacted the hotel direct. We also got a bowl of fruit and some dollars to spend although at check out they tried to get us to sign a form to say we wouldn't sue them for the stay or be critical of it in writing or verbally...a gagging clause in other words.
On the positive side, the waiting staff were lovely. Never had such attentive service at breakfast, which is also a great buffet.
Was irritated that the best table in the restaurant, the one with the full view of the falls, was reserved each morning for people working on the renovation, be they project managers or architects etc, rather than paying guests.
The Melia website for this hotel makes no mention of the work going on. The photos still show the outside pool area which not looks like a lunar landscape and if nothing else they should get one star for misleading people.

Old fashioned elegance in a ne....
Absolutely in the middle of the park and nowhere this hotel was a Sheraton and is now a Melia with Melia standards. Our taxi was met by a properly dressed staff member bearing a tray of towels and an iced drink. Buttons took our cases. The hotel is in the midst of a huge remake of the gardens back and front. Next year will see it with an olympic sized swimming pool and presumably everything that goes with it.
Service was good prompt and with a smile even at breakfast, which we enjoyed to the delicate strains of a harp - playing european favorites. Supper in the huge dining room was good value. Buffet hors d'oeuvre, sensible selection of main courses and a buffet for desserts. The reception were keen to see we enjoyed our short stay and got the most out of it.

Construction Site with great s....
OK--has been noted, at this time (may 2018) this is really a huge construction site that happens to have some rooms and services available. So if not having the pool available or if you want to sleep past 8 AM when the construction starts or you need a super updated modern room, then don't stay here until they are done. From what they are doing it will certainly be magnificent when completed at year end with all new rooms, pool, restaurants, etc.
We had no problem with the construction--as it was well noted to us in advance--so we were prepared and very pleased we stayed here. First, the staff was excellent and super helpful--first when we checked in and they gave us a run-down of how to see the Falls and manage our time. They gave us the hints for getting out early (before the crowds) and also to go to the Devil's Throat late and how to get on the boat tour (which you must do). Their guidance made our visit much better. They also arranged airport pick up and guide to the Brazil side and airport drop off which was very good. They also arranged a late check-out for us with no problem. The folks in the restaurant were great also. At this time all the service is in the banquet room--breakfast was excellent (you can have Matte made at your table) and the buffet dinner was surprising delicious and inexpensive. So a big plus for a great staff.
Lastly--you simply cannot beat the location. We had a Falls view room--yes you can see some of it from your room--and you can hear it too! But it is wonderful to get up early and hit the lower trail at 8 AM--and have the whole place to yourself!! For at least one hour the Falls was all ours!! Then we did the boat ride---you get soaked--but came back to the room to change to dry clothes and then do the upper trail, the visitor center and finally the train to the Devil's Throat. A long but amazing day--with no rush to get back to a bus etc. The next day we visited the Brazil side (it is a different feeling there), returned to hotel and then caught the late plane back to Buenos Aires.
The spa is open--for paid massage or you can use the Hydrotherapy pool for free--it is the size of a normal indoor hotel pool with all kinds of jets etc. Very relaxing after a long day of hiking and sight seeing.
So if you really want to have an amazing time at Iguazu I would stay here. The rooms and facilities are not much at this time...but the staff is great and the location is unbeatable. When the construction is done in 2019 this will be an amazing place.

The place to stay in Iguazu Fa....
True, the hotel is under renovation. But they acknowledge it with discount rates and ask your indulgence.
The hotel was recently acquired under the name Melia and is making every effort to improve. Location is key- it seems to be the only hotel right in the National park. Walking distance to everything you want to do and see. It’s worth putting up with an inconvenience or two for the perfect location.
There is an Extensive Breakfast buffet included with the room. The Dinner buffet was good with salad bar and choice of main course. Even offered us a Cocktail hour before dinner with a free cocktail.
Beds, including roll away for the 3rd person in our room, were comfortable as were the pillows.
Cute monkeys on the property are a fun element of the stay.
Spa lockers needs some work and it seems like they have already tackled the fitness center as it looks new (we didn’t use it).
The whirlpool is almost pool size and as the temperature was moderate I used to “swim a bit” as well as enjoy the jets. (Beware of one spot in the deep end with strong suction. ) The Outdoor pool is closed and under construction.
Hotel staff called us a car who took us to the town, waited while we ate and then took us to the airport.
Don’t stay anywhere else.

Hotel under major construction
It saddens me to give this hotel such a bad rating as the staff and location are truly amazing. We paid over $350 per night and after booking received a email there would be some construction. The reality is the hotel is in such bad condition it is being gutted and the construction is from morning until night with constant power outages, elevators not working and water is shut down at least once a day. When we arrived we were asked if we wanted an upgrade to a room with a view of the falls for an extra $60 per night now costing over $400, however we soon discovered our room had mold in the bathroom. The hotel staff agreed not to charge us the additional money. The dinning room is a disaster and they should at least turn down the lights and place candles on the tables to distract from the state of the room. Having said all that the location and staff exceeded expectations but the hotel should be applying discounts for the poor state of the hotel and the noise of the construction. I stayed in the hotel and paid not just for the park but also for a nice hotel. I believe the hotel should have offered a further discount or meal after we discovered mold in the room.
