Beautiful Space, Wonderful Sta....
We stayed in a bungalow room with our 1yr. old and it was a great experience.
--They had a quality 'pack-and-play' crib for us to use, and there was a curtain between sleeping and 'living' space which was good for naps.
--The staff was kind, courteous and helpful.
--Location is good (10min walk or less to everything in town) with a grocery 1/2 block down.
--All the rooms as well as their commons area is under a large greenhouse with all kinds of plants along with some tables, chairs and swing. Very peaceful atmosphere.
--Rooms cleaned daily. Everything in cabin was good (kitchen, shower, beds, etc.)
--Could hear local live music from somewhere close by, and being in Argentina means that it didn't end until ~midnight.
--Dollars or Peso only, no credit card, but that's not a big deal as long as you plan for it.

Good Value for Money!
Pros: Good Location (near town and grocery), Decent Breakfast, Clean Room, Friendly Staff, Decent price
Cons: There was miscommunication in my airport pick up, reception doesn't speak English enough but they have a staff they call on demand for English speaking customers, Wifi not so good in the room, cancellation wasn't flexible

My recent stay at Complejo Don....
I stayed for 3 nights at this hotel recently during my visit to El Calafate. This is a small hotel owned by a local Argentine. The city center is less than 10 min walk & there is a food market within 2 min walk. The hotel is cute and very clean. My room was small but comfortable and clean and sufficient for my needs. The room was peaceful at night. The Wi-Fi was free and the signal was strong. The breakfast was reasonable and had adequate food items. The best thing about this hotel is that it serves breakfast starting at 6AM. Most pickup tours in El Calafate start picking up customers around 7AM. So the breakfast timings were very convenient. Most other hotels in El Calafate serve breakfast at much later times. There is a provision for ordering a complete packed lunch for the next day for any of the excursions one may be taking, at a reasonable price. The owner is a very nice human being. I was made to feel as a special customer by the owner and the front desk throughout my stay. The pricing of this hotel is extremely affordable. I would certainly stay again at this hotel during my future visit to El Calafate. I would very highly recommend this hotel to anyone who is considering staying in El Calafate for all their needs.

Decent stay, good location, st....
This was our first stay in El Calafate after arriving from Torres del Paine; we were there for one night.
A couple of months before our stay I had emailed Complejo Don Pepe to ask them to help arrange a Perito Moreno tour for us. Without much affair they helped reserve a private driver for ARS 1900 to take my wife and I to/from the glacier.
Check-in at the front desk was pretty straightforward but the front desk person didn't speak English. We did however see other front desk staff later in the day which spoke English. I asked the front desk agent in broken Spanish to reconfirm our glacier tour, and she seemed to barely know anything about it until she read my emails with them (which were in Spanish). She wasn't sure if the driver would be there in the morning but said she would let us know... a little worrying since we had only that next day in El Calafate before taking an evening bus to El Chalten.
The room was great - comfortable bed, nice shower, good Wi-Fi. No issues there at all. Location - perfect for El Calafate and walking distance to restaurants/bars. We were very tired and popped into a small empanada shop called Ecco Max which was perfect for what we needed.
The next morning, our front desk agent informed us that she had our glacier tour arranged, but the price was now ARS 2200 - 300 ARS higher than the original quote and a total ripoff! However, since it was too late to find another tour company or buy bus tickets, we had really no choice but to go with it. They will say it's because the taxi driver raised their price, which is total BS; even if true, it is their responsibility to let us know much further in advance than 30 minutes before the pickup.
The breakfast was our worst in Argentina - a sad looking assortment of pastries, some slices of ham and cheese covered in plastic wrap, and some coffee. We were very hungry after leaving.
So, in short, I'd say that Don Pepe is a perfectly fine place to sleep and to explore El Calafate, but not a great place to eat breakfast or book a tour. It IS a good value relative to other hotels in the area, and provides a comfortable stay in a good location at a good price. Stay here to save some money, grab a sandwich at one of the nearby panaderias since breakfast won't fill you up at all, and steer clear for booking any sort of tour or transfer.

Great Location, Average accomm....
Our room for 3 people had a queen sized bed and then a bunk bed with 2 twin-sized beds (lower bunk was a little snug/tight). Employees at the front desk were always friendly and helpful ( we didn't book any tours with them based on some of the things we had read on Trip Advisor). We were in a bungalow room that looked into the covered greenhouse/courtyard which was a nice place to drink coffee or eat a take-away dinner. Bathroom stalls were small and the bathroom was a little cramped. Kitchen was stocked with utensils and plates. Breakfast was delivered daily the night before with coffee/tea and bread/cookies (simple, but very convenient on days that we wanted to head out early). Grocery store on the same block and within a block of the major street with restaurants/shops.
