So my new husband I choose St James's for many reasons 1) The settings to get married in looked amazing, 2)They did a free wedding package (if you did not know this then they do!) and 3) Had never been to Antigua (Tick off the list). Firstly i was trying to organise a wedding, all was confirmed back in Jan 2018- i then contacted the hotel/wedding planner on several occasions through Feb/Mar/Apr- even the weekend before we due to fly- needless to say my persistence paid off and all was sorted and confirmed (again) before we got there - phew... so the review On arrival the resort looks amazing, caribbean sea on one side and the atlantic on the other, it's your standard caribbean 2 up beach view villas- ask for a downstairs, you can then walk on to the beach. On check in it does feel they must tell you everything at once!, it's a lot to take in after travelling for nearly 12+hrs, give me where & when i eat and a map. So the wedding prep (if you are doing this), you meet Paula (busy woman!), get taken to St John's,spend the grand total of an hour and then back you come, but as this is a package you will get more than you thought included- THANK YOU! Ok the Atlantic beach was covered in some seagrass, the the hotel cannot control this- as they say mother nature is a powerful thing, my fiance and i did not mind as we then had the whole beach to ourselves for most of the fortnight. Wedding day- WOW, paula knew what she was doing, the spa girls are amazing- i looked well... not me! THANK YOU it all went to plan, the scenery/venues/steal drum man all look amazing. However the hotel i feel is a little dated, the room size is HUGE, the bathroom is HUGE, but is there any need for the (don't get me wrong) the HUGE bath?- walk in shower would suffice. On the food, i see why they have certain restaurants open at certain times, but i really liked the Eleven Menu- you need to advertise this more, it is not part of Cocoa. Breakfast in Rainbow is your typical buffet and nice to see you cater for gluten free, Cocoa is also good but the service is slow! Poached eggs- 30mins! As for the beach nights (full moon party), it is too spaced out and too much going on. And finally Alfred- he is the man of your dreams, he brings booze on a golf buggy! you do not to leave the beach OR your bed, always has a smile for everyone :) I also need give my regular housekeeper a mention, she was amazing, saw my wedding countdown chart and always asked could she change it- she even saw me leave, and covered my bed in flowers whilst i was getting made up! We enjoyed our time here, thank you to Alferd/Paula/ Pauline (housekeeper)/marlon(amazing vodka-martini)/durant.

Paradise from start to finish

My wife and I recently returned from Antigua and it was one of the best holidays we have had and highly recommend anybody going to this amazing resort, 98 % of the overall staff were brilliant ( the remaining 2 % I would put down to being tried for working so long days ). We had a beach side room which had a queen size double bed which guaranteed a good nights sleep every night, the room was cleaned every day and the towels were changed daily. The room also had a ceiling mounted fan and air conditioning which were both used constantly during our stay. All the restaurants were good together with the service and food was very good, we used Coco's for breakfast, and for lunch we alternated between Coco's and the Rainbow Gardens, similarly for Dinner we alternated between the Dockside, Coco's & the Rainbow Gardens each had varied menu's and catered for all tastes. We only went on a couple of exclusions which were both amazing, also my highlight was watching a 20 overs cricket match within the Sir Viv Richards stadium. The only minor issue was the amount of seaweed coming onto the beach from our third day ( but a big thank you to the staff who worked non stop every day to ensure at least you could paddle your feet in some instances, we mainly used the Caribbean side sea for swimming which was amazing.

SEAWEED

The beaches were covered with very stinky seaweed. I do realize that the resort has no control over this. BUT, I do feel as tho they should contact future guests when they realize it is happening to give them the chance to reschedule or cancel. It is very sad when you can't enjoy your food due to the smell of the seaweed, especially when you pay for all-inclusive and don't care to spend more money to eat off the resort. Our room was nice and very spacious. We did 2 excursions: The Xtreme Circumnavigation Tour, which includes Stingray City, Nelson's Dockyard, snorkeling and lunch on the beach. Mystic Catamaran, a sailing catamaran which takes you to snorkel, you have lunch on board then a beach break, Open bar.. Other than that we hung out at the resort and relaxed by the pool because we couldn't really use the beach.

Relaxing Week at St. James Clu....

My wife and I chose to return to the St. James Club Antigua for the second time. We vacationed there in 2012 and were pleased to see the resort was exactly as we remembered it. We arrived by shuttle to the resort and a lady was there to greet us with a list to check us in. She promptly welcomed us to the resort and asked us to take a seat and said she would be with us shortly. She sat with us and immediately told us that we were pre-registered as we were repeat visitors and went on to surprise us with un upgrade to a mini-suite as well as a complimentary dinner that night a Piccolo Mondo, the restaurant that normally requires a $40 cover charge. We were very happy with these unexpected upgrades and were taken to our room right away! Our suite was located on the Poinciana Building and was centrally located to all the amenities that we used. It was lovely and had a nice balcony with an ocean view. Our mini-suite was a renovated room with a large bathroom and king size bed. Lots of space for our hanging clothes and plenty of drawers. The resort is well maintained and we found the food to be very good in all the restaurants. We usually took a morning stroll and had our breakfast at Cocos. We also enjoyed the menu for lunch at Restaurant Eleven/11. The rum raisin ice-cream cone was something that my wife was anxious to have as she remembered it from our last vacation there. It was delicious and refreshing. Docksider had some interesting theme nights and Rainbow Garden was consistently good. We particularly enjoyed the complimentary meal at Piccolo Mondo….it was delicious and the service was excellent! The main pool was the place we ended our day and always had plenty of chairs. We enjoyed some delicious drinks and everything was served with a smile at all the bars and in the various restaurants. Keep in mind this resort is a very laid-back atmosphere. It does not have any glitz or glamour, just beautiful scenery and a relaxing feeling. Every night in the Docksider there were singers and it was a wonderful way to end our day. The only downside was the seaweed that has overtaken the beaches on the Atlantic side. At the beginning of our stay we were able to walk down to the beach but by the end of the week the seaweed was everywhere. The people removing it were working day in and day out but it kept accumulating and it was impossible to swim or sunbathe on that beach. The Mamora Bay was clear, up until a certain point but the seaweed was on the bottom of the Bay. This limited how far you would want to go in. We spent most of our days at Mamora Bay but the water was not as clear as we remembered from our previous visit. By the end of the week it seemed to be getting worst in the Bay as well and leaving a greener hue to the water. This is not a complaint on the resort as they were doing as much as they could to take care of the problem. We were told it was seasonal. All in all, we enjoyed the resort and would definitely go back to Antigua. Having now been to the Atlantic side twice we may want to try a hotel on the Caribbean side. That being said the St. James Club Antigua did not disappoint us and was the perfect relaxing holiday we expected it to be.

Paradise at St James’s Club in....

We have recently returned from a 2 week holiday at this amazing resort. We don’t usually go back to a resort 2 years running but we had such an amazing time last year that we had to go back & will definitely be going back again. We stayed in a Royal Suite, which was amazing. The room itself was beautiful with its huge bed, huge double shower in a very large bathroom, which also had a large bath & 2 sinks. There was also two sofas, coffee table, large TV, sink, tea/coffee facilities & fridge in the lounge part of the room, together with a large balcony which had 2 loungers & a coffee table on it. It overlooks the beautiful Mamora Bay. It’s an adults only area which has its own pool & bar, & also a quiet decking area for sunbathing with thatched canopies & comfy sun-beds. The food at the resort is really good. We were all inclusive & had steak on a few occasions which was absolutely delicious. The drinks are premium drinks too. The staff are just amazing, so welcoming & friendly & cannot do enough for you, whether they are the lovely ladies who clean your rooms, the maintenance men, the concierge staff, the waiting staff, the buggy drivers, the security, the beach staff or the top management, they are all so good. There are plenty of bars & places to eat. There is also a fully equipped gym there. There are beach activities & also pedalos, kayaks & windsurfers. The resort is on different levels & has little buggies that will take you from one place to another, & especially if you are unable to walk up the hill, so it’s perfect. Would highly recommend it. Love the resort. Love Antigua
