My Visit to Armenia - Home to the Oldest Winery in the World!

Call me a nomad, a wanderer, a travel enthusiast or whatever, my plan is clear - to cover the world before it covers me!

One day just reading an article on the oldest winery in the world, I came in direct contact with my weakness - “Wine" and the very next thing I remember, I am in Yerevan!

Soon, I learnt that it has been the filming location for a number of Punjabi music videos, one of them being by the star Jeet Parmar, and I love that song!

The scene at the airport was quite different as English is not very actively spoken there, we went for the postpaid taxi and reached our accommodation - Marriott Republic Square, it's the best place to stay, right in the heart of the city, located right across the Republic Square and main market which is "Vernissage" (very typically pronounced). The hotel’s lounge, which was part of our deal, boasted splendid views of the city along with homemade sangrias and house wines served during the happy hour!

Talking about wine, a visit to the oldest winery in the world was better than meeting god itself (a wine lover’s confession). We reach our destination - "Areni Winery", located in the countryside, a breathtaking drive with views of spectacular “Mount Ararat”, where locals organise wine tasting tours and give you a taste of the world's ancientest wines.

From dry to semisweet to local favourites, they have it all; I picked almost every variety as a token of my visit! I wish I had taken a few more bottles of those because just like travel, you can't just have enough wine, right?
