When to Go: Switzerland's climate can be defined as temperate, but various regions have their own special climatic conditions, ranging from glacial climates on and around the mountains and an almost Mediterranean climate to the south of the country, such as Lugano. Summers are usually pleasant and marginally humid with periodic rainfall, and winters experience sharp sun and sporadic snowfall. Autumn frequently tends to be the driest season. On average, daytime temperatures are around 18° to 28°C in summer and -2° to 7°C in winter. June to September is the best time to visit, with the availability of all outdoor activities, excluding winter sports, which can best be enjoyed from mid-December to early-April.

Local Transport: With one of the most efficient public transport systems in the world, you can be assured of convenience and punctuality in Switzerland. However, travel within the country is expensive, and it is advised to get Swiss Travel Passes for more economical deals. Trains of the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB/CFF/FFS) are the most frequently used inter-city transportations, and connect almost all the towns in the country.  Buses also provide excellent connectivity within towns, and the famous yellow ‘postal buses’ are the most common. You can also rent cars and motorcycles in Switzerland, though this is usually on the expensive side. For inner city travel, it is recommended to rent a cycle, as it is inexpensive and is a comprehensive way of seeing the city. There is free bike rental in Bern, Geneva, Zug and Zürich. All the larger lakes of the country have steamers operated Swiss Federal Railways or allied private companies, where 14 lakes are covered under the Swiss Boat Pass.
