Main Languages: Hindi is widely spoken in Uttar Pradesh besides some regional dialects in the rural areas. While English is not a commonly spoken language, in major cities certain regularly used words are understood by locals like shopkeepers, railway attendants, auto rickshaw and cab drivers, etc who deal with outsiders on a regular basis.

When to Go: Part of the Northern Plains, Uttar Pradesh does not experience extreme climatic conditions and hence is a year round destination. While summers can get quite warm and winters are usually chilly and foggy, the weather remains tolerable for most.

Local Transport: Uttar Pradesh has a wide range of public transport systems including trains and buses. Most towns in the state are connected by train to all major cities. Government run buses as well as those run by private operators are also easily available for all towns and even villages. For traveling within major cities, auto rickshaws and cycle rickshaws are available. Taxis can be hired for intra city as well as inter city travel. With multiple players operating in all modes, there’s much competition and hence fares remain reasonable.
