Shimla is surrounded by numerous little hill towns that you can visit during a day trip. While Naledhra is known for its golf course, Mashobra (13 km) and Fagu offer some great views of the surrounding valleys. For a longer excursion, head to Chail (63 km). You can do a day trip to this town for stay on for a night for a better experience. The Chail Palace, now a heritage hotel, and the Cricket Ground, reportedly the highest in the world, are the attractions here. Another popular destination around Shimla is Narkanda (70 km). It’s a known ski destination during peak winter but that’s dependent on the snowfall in the region. Watch the weather reports if you intend to ski here, else it’s a great retreat in itself.
