When to Go: France has a largely temperate climate, with warmer Mediterranean regions that have mild winters and hot summers. The rest of the country has temperate winters and mild summers, and cold winters in the mountainous regions. It is said that anytime is best time to visit France, though the locals themselves seem to prefer spring, from April to July.

Local Transport: France has superb road & rail networks, with the state-owned Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer Français (SNCF) taking care of most land transport. Domestic air travel is also an option. Within major cities, buses, taxis, trams, cycles, and hired cars all serve well, and some major cities, like Paris, also have an efficient metro system (called the Métro in Paris). Renting cars, motorcycles, scooters, and even boats, are great ways to travel in France.
