Float Festival (Madurai, Tamil Nadu) January 30 |
|
On a full moon night, ornamented icons of goddess Meenakshi and her consort are taken out in a colorful procession to a huge temple. Its main feature is the elaborately illuminated barge carrying decorated temple deities at the Mariamman Teppakulam Pool amidst chanting hymns. The icons are floated in the tank on a raft decked with flowers and flickering lamps. Worth a watch!
