With hundreds of castes, creeds and religions blooming under one umbrella nation, India is a country where everyday is a celebration. An event or festival unfolds in one or the other part of the country on each day. Indians inherently seem to be a joyous lot of people since even minute things like harvest time and change of season is celebrated with as much gusto as major festivals like Diwali, Holi and Eid. Of course, Christmas and New Year celebrations are as elaborate and extravagant as elsewhere in the world. The country also boasts of three national holidays that mark great events in its history and thus celebrated by one and all irrespective of what part of the country one belongs to or what religion he/she follows. While the former two are celebrated with elaborate parades and flag hoisting across the country, 2nd October is a day when Indians pay obeisance to the Father of the Nation, who inspired his countrymen to demand their freedom and eventually helped attain it. Besides festivals, India also hosts various events that showcase its heritage and culture. Ranging from Rajasthan Day celebrated in Jaipur to the Hemis Festival in Leh or the Goa Carnival in Goa, each event offers an insight into the local traditions.
