Needless to say, this holy city is loaded with festivals vibrant in colour and rituals. The Teppam Festival or the Float Festival is celebrated in the month of January/February, where the images of Meenakshi and Lord Sundareshwara are mounted on floats and taken to the Mariamman Teppakkulam Tank. The festival is a gala affair and lasts for 12 days, at the end of which, the deities are returned to their shrine with much fan fare.
Culturally rich Varanasi celebrates the Dhrupad Mela in March, which is a five day musical festival commemorating Dhrupad. Renowned artists perform at the ghats during this auspicious occasion.
