In the true spirit of the revelries of the Raj-time Shimla, the town abounds with Romance-steeped myths. In case you are wondering where Scandal Point got its name from, a popular story goes that this was the place where the dashing Maharaja of Patiala eloped with the daughter of Lord Kitchener. Soon enough though, the Maharaja had to return the daughter and was banished from Shimla forever. To avenge this humiliation he scoured the surrounding hills in search of a place from where he could literally look down upon Shimla. And so he founded Chail and established it as his summer capital. The Maharaja built a Georgian mansion here and as the ways of the royalty go, the highest cricket pitch in the world.
