Best time to visit: April to June and September to November. Ranikhet experiences Alpine climate. The summers are mild and last from April to June. The winters are cold and carry on from November to February. The months of December and January see snow fall but this is when the air is the clearest and the snow peaks dazzle your eyes. July and August see heavy rain, leading to landslide. Ranikhet is best avoided then.

Taxies are available at the stand at the main market, although Ranikhet is a town tailor-made for walking. The roads are flanked by gentle hills that are easy to climb and offer stunning views of the snow peaks. On the way you run into shepherds and local urchins.
