Location: Pune lies between two rivers - Mula and Murtha - and the two join beneath the appropriately named Sangam Bridge.
Climate: Pleasant throughout the year, Pune's weather is one of the best things about the city. It's never too hot or too cold. Evenings are wonderfully nippy, requiring a light jacket.
Altitude: 560 metres above sea level.
Local languages: The locals speak Marathi but with its cosmopolitan crowd of students that come not only from all over India but the world, English and Hindi are widely spoken and understood.
Phone Code: 020
Best time to visit: Although Pune can be visited all round the year, the weather is the loveliest just after the monsoon in the months of September and October. Pleasant breezes rock the city, which itself is covered in a beautiful cover of green.
Local Transport
Although local buses are an option, it's always best to stick to auto rickshaws in Pune. You need not haggle as the autos run by metre. But the rides are generally rough, given the sorry state of Pune's potholed roads.
