Pune being the student city it is, abounds with economically priced restaurants, dhabas and shacks, serving some lip smacking fare. Most restaurants have outdoor seating, given Pune's great weather, so eating-out is a very pleasant experience here. High end restaurants abound too, and with Pune's rising population of young-MNC-corporate personnel and expatriates, largely thanks to the Osho Ashram, many trendy and offbeat eateries have sprung up, especially in the Koregaon Park area.
Visit the Sheesha Cafe for some great Mediterranean cuisine such as pasta, lasagna and even baklava. Do sample their Iranian tea, great with flavoured Sheeshas (we like their Red Bull Sheesha which is packed with an energy punch). Not Just Jazz By the Bay is a swanky restaurant offering a great lunch buffet with Continental fare at very affordable prices. Arthur's Theme is perfect for a romantic dinner; candle lit and with a beautiful outdoor seating area, the restaurant serves Continental cuisine. Right next to Arthur's Theme lies Malacca Spice specialising in Thai fare.
Dhole Patil Road has a lot of eateries lined up. Do visit Just Baked for all things baked. Sigri and Bombay Brasserie serve delectable Indian. (We like Sigri's Kaali Daal which is simmered all night before being served - buttery and spicy, it's perfect!)
For more economical meals, visit Deccan at Fergusson College Road (FC Road in common parlance) serving yummy paranthas, rajma-chawal etc., all for Rs. 25. Vaishali on FC Road is good for South Indian fare with a heavenly Cheese Dosa. There are also many chaat kiosks nearby.
And how can you visit Pune and not visit its famous German Bakery at Koregaon Park. Everything Continental is the adage here. Feast on some scrumptious salads, omelettes and the bakery's signature lemongrass tea.
For Pune's famous Shrewsbury biscuits visit the East Street Bakery. For late night hunger pangs visit The Coffee Stop, a road side kiosk serving delicious cold coffees and sandwiches. Pune also has ice cream parlours peppered through the streets.
